SEA_FIVEMemberMy wife’s wedding ring has a crack in it and also some of the prongs are snagging things. It needs a little servicing and haven’t a clue where to take it that will do a good job and be somewhat reasonable.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

JiggersMemberMenashe and Sons in the Junction. If they can’t fix it themselves, I’m sure they know contacts who can.

flowerpetalMemberPlease consider Wyatt’s in Westwood Village. You will get a fair price from this community friendly jeweler. For example, Kurt almost daily replaces watch batteries for the cost of the battery and then takes a donation from the watch owner for the White Center Food Bank. Very reputable, very friendly and knowledgable about jewelry. Want to read more about Wyatt’s? Put that name in the search box above and read praise after praise from blog participants.
Wyatt’s is across from Sleep Country and Radio Shack in WV.

celeste17ParticipantI love Russell’s in the junction. Took a watch that belonged to one of my Dad’s Aunt’s there (really old probably something near the turn of the century) and it took a while for them to be able to find the parts or have them made but they came through for me. And they kept in touch every step of the way. Patty and Ron are the owners lots of experience.

SueParticipantI would second Wyatt’s – great people, and I’d read so many good reviews about them that I decided they would be the place to trust the resizing (and re-soldering) of my wedding ring. I was definitely not disappointed. They even offered to clean it for free anytime I stopped by, even if not purchasing anything. They are also a WSB sponsor.

SEA_FIVEMemberThanks to everyone who responded. I took it to Wyatt’s this morning. I must say my first impressions were not great though.
My estimate jumped from $150 to possibly around $300 over the course of 5 minutes (not based off of anything I said or did). It was really kind of bizarre how it went down… I will let everyone know how it goes! I still may decide to take it elsewhere.

flowerpetalMemberSounds like your wife’s ring needs more than a little work. I am presuming that it is gold, yes? If it is cracked it likely needs a new half shank as it has probably gotten too thin. And if the pronngs are catching on things those need to be re-tipped. $300 is not unreasonable for this much work. This is a good example of why cherished pieces of jewelry need to be maintained rather than waiting till they get to this state. If you are not comfortable with Wyatt’s perhaps you should talk with one of the other jewelers recommended here. They are all reputable and good people and your comfort level is valuable.
My other half is a jeweler doing design, manufacturing and repair; but not for any of the businesses in West Seattle. He contributed to this post. :-)
