IrukandjiParticipantHiya! I’ve just started looking into Martial Arts classes in the area for a five-year-old. Anyone out there with experience taking kids to classes who can make recommendations about the various studios and their practices?

TKDguyParticipantYou might consider some of the many martial arts classes at the local community centers. Delridge and Hiawatha both have “Little Kickers Beginner” classes for ages 4-7 and Hapkido Kidz as a continuation of Little Kickers as the child progresses. High Point even offers Capoeira classes for ages 6 and older. All of these classes are super reasonable ($30 a month I believe) and I have heard good things about the instructor. I teach the tae kwon do class at Hiawatha, but my class is for 18 and older.
Good luck!

maplesyrupParticipantMy kids used to take lessons at Lee’s Martial Arts on California and they have good classes just for kids. The instructors are nice people too.

SJoyParticipantI second Lee’s Martial Arts. They are right across from Spiro’s. Lisa and Joe are a married couple who run the acadamy – they are not only great instructors but also wonderful people. My son has been going there for several years.

BlendParticipantWe love doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Cindy at Sleeper Athletics. She has a few students in West Seattle. She is close to West Seattle and it only takes us about 12 minutes or less to get there. It’s at the Tully’s Building on Airport Way in Georgetown.
I am amazed at how far my son has come in one year. He is winning medals and having fun. The rates are great. I think it’s close to $50 a month and classes are almost every day a week. I am not sure about price because my husband also goes and we pay a different rate for both of them. And it’s so reasonable!!!
So yah..we couldn’t be more happy and the team is like a family. We are all really close and help each other out.

Garden_nymphMemberSensei Pam Cooper at Aikido of West Seattle is amazing. She taught Aikido to the 1-3 graders at my daughter’s school and is a kind, patient and wonderful instructor. The community she has created at her dojo is loving, supportive and positive. She teaches children, adults and private lessons. She has been an Aikido Sensei for more than 25 years and it shows! You really can’t go wrong with Aikido of West Seattle!
