rnmettyParticipantSam is looking for his forever home! We are fosters for a wonderful organization called People United for Pets (PUP). If you are interested in Sam you can find out more about him and fill out an application through the link below. He is super sweet, loves kids, people, dogs, and likes our cat but is cautious. He is crate trained and potty trained. Sam is 1 and would make a great family dog!

birdrescuerParticipantI really don’t understand why we need to bring animals from CA for adoption when we have so many here. I also think $500 is exorbitant.

rnmettyParticipantI was hoping for only positive comments here from people that wanted to help. Abandoned dogs from anywhere deserve a loving family.

anonymeParticipantYes, all abandoned animals deserve a loving, permanent home. But birdrescuer makes valid points, especially in regard to the insanely high adoption fee. It only costs about $100 more to adopt a horribly abused galgo from Spain, including air fare.
This feels more like a sale than a rescue.

birdrescuerParticipantAdoption fees at Seattle Animal Shelter for a similar dog for the whole shebang is around $250. If I were adopting I’d adopt here and if I had an extra $250 I’d give it to the food bank, ACLU, Planned Parenthood.

angelescrestParticipantWe don’t have “so many” here. We volunteer at the Kitsap Humane Society, and we have weekly transfers from high-kill shelters in CA, Texas, Eastern WA, Kauai Humane,…and occasionally from abroad. And those pups and cats are finding homes fast! It is so heartwarming! I’d say the higher fee is because this is a small rescue: fewer resources, but how nice all dogs are placed with fosters first. Great for the animal and the adopter.
You were quick to react so negatively…yikes. I hope the lil guy is quickly adopted.February 6, 2017 at 4:23 pm #873240
birdrescuerParticipantWondering and asking a question is not, in my opinion, negative. Every time I go to the shelter there are lots of dogs and cats waiting. It is nice to know people have so much discretionary income to spend on adopting pets.

angelescrestParticipantI think the point is to help find the dog a home, knowing that you might get a “better deal” at a larger shelter. Your post(s) would discourage an adopter. As rnmetty said, Ï was only looking for positive comments here from people who wanted to help”. And, I think that a dog that’s been fostered (with a family to boot) is a super candidate for adoption. And Sam is really cute!

JanSParticipantI am going to go against myself here and comment. I am not looking for a dog to adopt, so I was just going to let this post pass, since I have no skin in the game. If you are looking for a dog to adopt, make a comment. If you’re not, then why comment…and yes, it came across as negative, even if it wasn’t meant to be.. Hope the little cutie finds his forever home, no matter what the adoption fee is. Sometimes if you can’t say anything good, you don’t really need to say anything. Just my 2 cents ….Have a great rest of the week, folks :)

rnmettyParticipantThank you angelecrest and JanS for your support. Never in a million years did I imagine it would go down this road:)

HMC RichParticipantI agree with Jan. I adopted a dog from Phoenix and the costs to move our pooch up here was similar. Adoption, vet visits, chip, travel, food etc. Best dog I have ever had too!
