The great cocktail and night club singer Blossom Dearie died Saturday in her apartment in Greenwich Village. She was 82 years old. She performed in N.Y. until recently.

In our West Seattle home, if there is a cocktail hour with music in the background, you can bet that Blossom Dearie’s voice would be among those that you would hear.

    Here’s a 1983 performance:

What a true talent. I fell in love with Blossom Dearie when I was a kid and heard her on School House Rock. “Unpack Your Adjectives” is my favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j347DjSve0

I recall many afternoons listening to her interviews. She was encyclopedic about musicians.

I always thought her voice was like no other. She really had some chops, as they say!

    Thanks for the link fp.

I’m sorry I never heard those interviews. Were these on NPR?

Thanks Kirida for the link to School House Rock. I had no idea!

    FP –

No need to be sorry you never heard those interviews. Cuz I’m wrong, wrongo! Ms Dearie wasn’t the interviewer – I’m thinking of Marian McPartland.

    I am dumb. :

Oh my, that’s funny… in a good way. I think they would both find that mistaken identity to be a complement. WestSeattleDood does not = dumb!
