carrieannMemberMy husband and I tried it on Thursday evening, and I am so glad we did. We arrived in time for happy hour, which gave us a chance to sample some things before really diving in.
For drinks, I ordered the apple mint mojito and my husband had The Mural (Kettle One Vodka, melon liqueur, Yuzu, cranberry juice, and muddled cilantro. Served in a chimney glass with lime.) They were both quite tasty, but I especially enjoyed his and thought the addition of cilantro was uniquely delicious. He ordered the Caesar Baby salad (which had crispy/fried anchovies that I also enjoyed, because they weren’t overpowering at all but provided a nice crunch vs most caesars that just have the essence of these salty little fish) and I got the Lemon Thyme Scented Asparagus Soup (which I fell instantly in love with. A little scoop of soup+a bit of the goat cheese+nibble of the tempura asparagus… Amazing.)
We also shared a couple of the Nibbles from the happy hour menu: Kahlbi Marinated Grilled Kobe Style Flank Steak (so flavorful with a nice bite to it, and the pickled cucumber salad that accompanied it provided a pleasant cooling contrast) and Berkshire Pork Bellies (SO so good and incredibly flavorful. they were served atop a chickpea cake and drizzled with a dijon demi.) Not wanting to leave without sampling at least one of their dessert items, we opted for the creme brulee. When our waiter (who was wonderful, attentive, and genuine) mentioned balsamic vinegar and cherry tomatoes, we wondered if he’d made a mistake and had meant to say “strawberries”. Nope. Our creme brulee came out with a tiny cluster of peeled cherry tomatoes and drizzling of balsamic. And you know what? Loved it. It was a surprisingly tasty combination, and I’m glad we decided to end the meal with it.
I can honestly say that our first experience couldn’t have been more positive. We will be returning to try more of their menu, and have already passed along the recommendation to others.

ellenaterMemberWow, thanks. Just the kind of review I was hoping for. :)

SueParticipantWe just got back from a late lunch at Fresh Bistro and were very happy with it. I usually find places like this much more affordable at lunch, so I was glad they unveiled the lunch menu online, which got us to try it out.
I loved the decor – everything looked so elegant and yet not so high-class that I felt out of place. Service was very friendly and good too. The only weird thing decor-wise is the bathroom setup. The bathrooms have no sink in them, because there are 2 sinks right outside the bathroom. But the actual bathrooms have a frosted glass door, and when someone’s at the sink, the light hits them in such a way that their silouette is huge on the door and it looks almost like someone’s standing right up against the door and you wonder if they’re trying to look in at you. That would take some getting used to. :)
As for the food, thumbs up! I had the open faced meatloaf sandwich on focaccia with fried baby zucchini – I’d pay for a side of that zucchini if they offered it. Very nice meal that I would order again. My husband had the sweet potato crabcake appetizer as his meal and I got a little taste of it – also awesome. Their strawberry lavender lemonade was just wonderful – it was very slightly carbonated and not very sweet and just so refreshing. They have a different dessert menu at lunch than dinner, and I tried the lemon shortcake – OMG it was amazing. It was filled with the most amazing rosemary mascarpone cream and the shortcake itself was very moist. I would definitely go back again. Someone nearby had the halibut fish & chips and they looked really good.

ellenaterMemberYou are making me REALLY hungry. I can’t believe I haven’t gone yet! I would pay for the side of zucchini, too!

nuniMemberfriend and I checked out Fresh Bistro on Friday and it was delicious! We got there around 5:45pm and the place was pretty empty still. By the time we left it had filled up.
My friend had the spicy spaghettini and meatball (minus the meatball) and she loved it. I had the green olive and pecorino crusted halibut and it was to die for. Everything was cooked to perfection. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the flan but it was magnificent! I definitely recommend this place. They give you bread and a delicious butter and cheese to spread on them. The drinks are awesome too. I had the mural (YUM) and my friend had the Westside Story (also YUM).

SueParticipantI went back this week for lunch and had the Wagyu Steak Frites – I was actually surprised how much meat and fries I got for the price and was glad I didn’t order the appetizer I was thinking about. It was just as good as the first time I’ve gone there. I probably won’t go for dinner as the prices are higher and the menu doesn’t sound as appealing to me, but I’ve been there twice for the lunch menu and am thrilled with the quality of the food and the service.

beachdrivegirlParticipantThat lunch menu looks to die for! I cant wait to try it.

JoBParticipantSue…
two visits and two raves… it looks like it might be time to try the Fresh Bistro for lunch….
i too like try new places at lunch first… if lunch intrigues.. we generally return for dinner.
i feel a lunch date coming on:)

PuppyluckParticipantSpringhill move over, there’s a new restaurant in town and it’s better and more affordable than you!
O M G !!!
I had lunch there today and it was SO VERY GOOD, no Fabulous !!
I just wish I had been hungrier and could have eaten more.
I had the Bellies & Beans, which in my opinion, was the PERFECT DISH.
When I say perfect that means, the Perfect combination of flavors with the Perfect seasonings
It’s rare for me to find a dish that is SO good that it needs nothing to make it better. Bravo on this creation.
I also had the Mussels which was as very good once I figured out it’s best to get a little of all the ingredients in every bite.
I am so much looking forward to coming for dinner, so I can have a cocktail and desert as well.
OH, AND the prices are very reasonable and the and the decor is also very nice.
They are WAY better than Springhill and a better value. I will definitely be back!!! SOON

TraciMemberI almost went in for lunch today and left because I was in a bit of a hurry and got DEATH GLARED by the dude in the parking lot whos job is apparently only to give tickets to Fresh Bistro customers… I literally stepped out of my car, read the sign that says “If you park in this lot and walk in Fresh Bistro you will IMMEDIATELY get a ticket” -and ope nevermind!
Sounds like a classic case of some management being jerks. Till next time, Fresh Bistro.
September 9, 2009 at 5:28 am #667568
ellenaterMemberLOL, Traci. I know exactly the sign you are talking about. Too funny…
My neighbor is either owner or co-owner of Fresh Bistro. He is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Not surprised it’s the shizzle. STILL have not been yet. :(

c@lbobMemberI am a fan of Fresh Bistro, too, and, since the comparison to Spring Hill has been made, I have the opportunity to say it — I don’t get what the big deal is about Spring Hill. It’s a competently run establishment, but I fail to understand the raves it has gotten.
On the other hand, we went to Fresh for a fifth time, and are still in love with the place.
I usually park at the US Bank lot. You have to pay, but its close.
September 9, 2009 at 2:50 pm #667570
dhgParticipantSpring Hill: Best duck and best short ribs I’ve ever had.
Fresh Bistro is ok but, IMHO, it needs some re-jiggering. Adding basil and balsamic vinegar to a dessert is not actually fusion-creative, it’s fusion-wrong.
September 10, 2009 at 12:10 am #667571
PuppyluckParticipantHummm, haven’t had desert there yet, but am looking forward to it.
I did go there for a second time for lunch today. LOVED, did you hear me, LOVED the Pecan Prawns. Oh my, Juicy prawns under that crunchy exterior, makes my mouth water to think about it. AND there was this Amazaing Mango Slaw served with it and WOW, the flavors were fantastic. I usually only like my Mango by itself so I was a bit hesitant to try it but I did and WOW. It was as good as the Bean salad that came with the Salmon Bellies I had yesterday.
Also had the Sweet potato crab cakes. they were good, very well prepared but if I didn’t know it was crab I wouldn’t have guessed. They tasted good but not of crab. There was this WONDERFUL Chipotle sauce on top of each cake that was Really good, could have used more of that.
September 10, 2009 at 12:18 am #667572
beachdrivegirlParticipantI’ll have to give it a second try. I went there once and thought it was over rated and over hyped. So many other places that suit my pallet better.
September 10, 2009 at 1:24 am #667573
ellenaterMemberI haven’t been to either yet so will look forward to comparing. Mmmmm prawns.
September 10, 2009 at 3:42 am #667574
JoBParticipantBDG.. did you confuse palete and pallet?
a pallet is a wooden mini-deck used to facilitate the use of fork lifts to move piles of boxes or other receptacles in a warehouse..
not to be confused with palette which is the thing that painters mix their paints on..
palete translates literally as roof of the mouth but is also used to describe one’s personal taste preferences.
i am sure wikipedia will give you a better definitions than i provided…
September 10, 2009 at 4:26 am #667575
hopeyParticipantJoB, I can’t help it… if you’re going to be pedantic, you should check the dictionary before you post. It’s palate.
pal⋅ate [pal-it]
–noun
1. Anatomy. the roof of the mouth, consisting of an anterior bony portion (hard palate) and a posterior muscular portion (soft palate) that separate the oral cavity from the nasal cavity.
2. the sense of taste: a dinner to delight the palate.

Origin:
1350–1400; ME palat < L palātum roof of the mouth

IrukandjiParticipantTried Spring Hill for lunch. The ‘nicoise’ plate minus quail egg was seared tuna next to a small pile of veggies. The fish was nicely cooked, but nothing that spoke of the exquisiteness that nicoise can be. The kid got pasta and liked it: good thing since there is no kid’s menu, just whatever couple things they seem to offer on a given day.
It took a while to be seated well after the lunch rush (1:20ish). Service was odd: the waitress was so incredibly gracious, but often absent. I had to go find her twice.
Also, having the need to scrub down the kid (ah, red sauce), I handed my credit card to our server. She or the hostess ran the card, then just left it unattended on our table. YIKES.
$26 for lunch. Odd service, interesting but not appealing menu (seems nearly everything had either eggs or shellfish), and careless treatment of card. I’m not terribly inspired to go back.
The iced tea was good.

JoBParticipanthopey..
you are right.. it is palate.. it was right in my head but didn’t make it past the fingers:)
and i was being pedantic… guilty as charged.
thank you for calling me on it.
