ALSParticipantFirst, let’s please not turn this thread into a debate about pit bulls. I pour my heart and soul into rescuing this misunderstood breed and am coming to you asking for your help and support, because I know there are a lot of animal lovers in our community.
I am writing because the rescue that I am involved with (BullsEye Dog Rescue) is in desperate need of more foster homes, and since we have no shelter facility, we can only save as many dogs as we have foster homes for. Pit bulls and pit mixes make up about 1/3 of the dogs in shelters and a homeless pit bull stands a 1 in 600 chance of ever finding a home. Needless to say, there are a lot who need saving. Those of you who know pit bulls know they are fantastic dogs in the right hands.
If you’ve ever thought about fostering a dog, I would encourage you to go to our web site and fill out a foster application: http://www.bullseyerescue.org/involve.htm
Thank you for your help. Too many good dogs are being put down because there aren’t enough homes, and we can use all the help we can get!

celeste17ParticipantGood Luck. I wish I could but we have two cats and I barely have enough time for them. I think these are great dogs that have gotten a bad rep. I feel a dog is as good as its owner. If they owner trains the dog to be aggressive then it will be.

ricoMemberKeep em out of the neighborhood where I live. I have no doubt that when raised well they are a fine dog, but seems that way too many people are incapable of doing so, resulting in significant consequences.

ALSParticipantThanks, Rico, for doing exactly what I said I didn’t want to do with this post.
I am happy to debate the myths and facts around pit bulls some other time, but this specific thread is a plea for help. We can only save as many dogs as we have foster homes for, since we are not a shelter facility. Right now we have more dogs than foster homes. If you have ever thought about fostering, now would be a great time to do so, especially as we head into spring and shelters become flooded with returned “Christmas presents.” If you want to debate about pit bulls, please save it for another time.

fetchwestMemberI also volunteer for BullsEye Dog rescue. Although I am fairly new to their group, I love the passion and the amount of work they put into their cause. They offer so much education and support to fellow pit bulls owners, foster parents and volunteers. Even if you can’t foster, please take a look at their website. I have a pit bull mix myself, although he is not perfect he is a kind, loving animal that deserve to be treated well. I am not in a position to foster dogs but there are also other ways to volunteer and help these wonderful pets.
