HMC RichParticipantEarmarks are supposed to be a dirty word for Republicans but as everyone saw during the last administration, the Republicans spent, spent, spent.
The House has passed a 3.7 Billion dollar omnibus budget bill. About 8,600 earmarks are included in this bill. Democrats own 60% (naturally – they are kids in a candy store these days) but supposedly my party, the party of fiscal responsibility is asking for the other 40%, and they have the audacity to attack the democrats.
Unbelievable. I love fiscal conservatives but the moderate wing of the Republican party is killing my party and they still haven’t learned their lesson. I can’t wait for 2010 to get the RIGHT kind of people in place.
Once we get our act together we will be stronger. But for now I don’t think the Democratic party has much to worry about from the supposed opposition.
This is a Republican rant. I have plenty of ire directed toward the other party, but not for this post.
PS, want to see an upset libertarian? Watch Glenn Beck. Yeah, he is right leaning but he is irritated at most of the politicians. It can be quite entertaining.

MorganMemberLet me beat them to it, HMC:
“You mean Glenn Beck from Fix News?
Why don’t you listen/watch something more unbiased like, MSNBC or NPR? ”
I agree with you completely. The Republican party has lost the moral high ground on fiscal responsibility. People can complain about lowering taxes all they want – but the reality is that lowering them has proven time again to actually increase revenues (the Laffer curve is difficult for them to understand). That said – I’m a “starave the beast kind of guy.
The deficit is a result of spending, plain and simple – and the Republicans lost their way over the last 6 years and need to get back to what put them in power in the first place.

HMC RichParticipantGood One Morgan. I have a dirty little secret. I liked working at an NPR station in my younger days. Nice People. I also used to work for a Murdoch owned company. Nice People, with a hint more of competition.
I am not a reporter, but more technical.
At the NPR station our News Director was Pro-Choice and our Chief Engineer was Pro-Life. That was a cat and dog fight of immense proportion. I won’t ever forget those verbal brawls.
The next few years will be interesting. Let’s see if the party of Lincoln can get back on its feet soon.

JoBParticipantHMCRich…
unfortunately, there is a huge gap between fiscal conservatives and conservatives in either party.
however, our current economic crisis makes the distinction moot.
the only US entity with the ability to borrow funds to spend to keep our banking system from collapsing and taking what is left of our economy with it is the US govt…
if they don’t spend.. most of us won’t have any source of income very soon…
and those nest eggs some of you are relying on will quickly become as worthless as toilet paper…
We can demand that they spend wisely.. but we should also demand that they spend.
our very lives depend upon it.
we are no longer small farmholders with the ability to feed ourselves from our own efforts.

HMC RichParticipantWelcome back JoB. We missed you and your commentary. I will be arguing with you and others on other posts but not this one. Have a great night.
