captainDaveParticipantI am producing our first pilot “Floating Market” series at the new Lake Union Park this month on each Wednesday from noon till 6PM.
I am thinking of trying to do a floating market in West Seattle. It would work a little differently since there is not an adequate public dock to work from. We are thinking of doing a beach landing at Alki. Small boats would transport the produce and crafts from a lager boat anchored off shore. We would beach the skiffs on an outgoing tide so that you would be able to shop without getting your feet wet.
So, my question is; Will West Seattle residents be willing to come down to Alki Beach to shop for fresh local produce and unique crafts?
Come down to our Lake Union Floating Market this month and see what it’s all about. You can see more about our Floating Markets at http://www.farmboat.org

KevinParticipantDave,
Do you have a “fresh list” of what we can expect to see offered on Wednesday at Lake Union?
.
As for whether folks will come to Alki Beach? This is a very novel idea, definitely worth pursuing.

SueParticipantInteresting idea. Personally I would not use it, but only because I live within walking distance of the WS Farmers Market and WS Produce, so it wouldn’t make sense for me to drive to Alki specifically for that. But if I were on Alki and it was there, I’d definitely stop by. I would think the people living on Alki would really like that since their local choices seem limited.

captainDaveParticipantKevin,
Here are some of the items that I have ordered from Full Circle Farm, Growing Washington, Marshland Orchard, and Whistling Train Farm.
Vegetables:
Winter Squash (several varieties)
Butternut Squash
Super Sweet Corn
Apples
Celery Root
Swiss Chard
Gourmet Potatoes
Yellow Carrots
Pears
Spaghetti Squash
Yellow Zucchini
Hot Peppers
Brussels Sprouts
Watercress
Arugula
Radicchio
Garlic
Onions
Cauliflower
and more…
One of our vendors is planning on bringing a variety of beats, cucumbers, bok choy and chineses greens along with the wonderful varieties of Dahlias they brought last week.
We will also have artisan food products from McSweet (Olives) and a variety of things from two Whidbey Island Farms: Lavender Wind Farms and Knot-in-Thyme. I believe that they will be serving fresh pies from Seattle Pie Company again on the Carol M.
