AnonymousInactiveFullTilt,
I admit the food at Smarty Pants is not
inexpensive, but I do not think it is expensive.
The best comparison I can think of is sandwiches at Paseo’s. I like the Smarty Pants sandwiches more, and the Smarty Pants sandwiches come with a side. The Smarty Pants soups are good, but I admit they seem pricier than I would prefer. Brunch does seem more expensive than at least one inexpensive diner that I frequent.
The last time I ate at Smarty Pants (a couple months ago), I sat at the bar, and I admit that service by that particular bartender was bad.
I am one of the people who thinks that since the parking that the falafel guy was using near Smarty Pants and Nine Pound Hammer is public parking, it should not matter who legally parked in that space, and it was definitely wrong for someone to slash tires.
January 21, 2009 at 6:01 pm #655527
FullTiltParticipantOh it was wrong to slash tires, it was just kind of douchey to have his friend park his trucks there in order to disturb another business. Just because it is legal, does not make it ethical. Ptak has also called inspectors and the liquor board with false claims against the other bars and restaurants around him. I understand his worry that his business is going down, but it is not just because new places are opening up. One of the biggest targets of his wrath that I have heard of, has been the 9lb hammer.
So, just to be clear, it is not the price of the food as much as it is the service, and business practices.

JoBParticipanta good restaurant doesn’t need to worry about a falafel truck…
or harass his competitors…
I suspect that if that is the way he responds to competition, anyone who likes the place should eat there soon.. because it is on it’s way to closure.

villagegreenMemberDoh! I was walking to lunch today and the Falafel truck is back. Guess they’re not giving up on Seattle just yet. It’s located just off Airport Way on Corson Ave (right next to the Corson Bldg). Enjoy!
January 21, 2009 at 9:59 pm #655530
ellenaterMemberthanks for the updates. are any of these places in West Seattle? Isn’t there a place on California by the Morgan Junction? Can’t think of the name of it!
I LOVE falafel trucks. There were some great ones in Portland. mmmm, can almost smell it.
Also, that is CRAZY about smarty pants. I will NOT patronize them. That is STOOPID. This is America man. May the best food win! Trashy!!!
And thanks for the recs. Full Tilt! You always know the best places. And not I am HUNGRY, lol…
January 21, 2009 at 10:06 pm #655531
FullTiltParticipantThat Falafel truck is really the best I have had in Seattle. Make sure you get the beet salad on your sandwich. Actually just get everything and some extra napkins.
January 22, 2009 at 1:35 am #655532
inactiveMemberOK then, there’s my lunch tomorrow. I have not even seen the truck.
There’s another place where I’ve gone for a million years, but I’m blanking on the name of it. Ack! Can’t remember. It’s way up in the U-District though – right on the west side of The Ave. It has a walk-up window and an inside area…anyway, cheap, messy and tasty. I LOVE their deep fried cauliflower and their falafel sandwiches – w/tzatziki, of course. And they have lots of mixed platters.
But, unless I’m already in the District, it’s a loooooong way to travel off the island, so I’ll be testing the wares at the truck tomorrow!
And, I like the peeps at Georgetown Liquor too. Really nice.

FullTiltParticipanti think you talking about Cedars. Yeah that place is yummy. The truck is way better though.

January 22, 2009 at 6:07 pm #655535
inactiveMemberCedars! That’s it. I was going to write Cyprus…some day’s the middle-age memory just fails…ugh.
January 22, 2009 at 7:57 pm #655536
CMParticipantAHHHHH. Truck located, goods procured, beet salad stained finger tips, Jones sated for today. That was a dangerously good sandwich.
He said he is planning on staying in Seattle, but possibly not in Georgetown.
January 22, 2009 at 8:15 pm #655537
sam-cParticipantI thought that truck was a Youngstown on Mondays-
I went there a couple times.
Is that not the case anymore ?
January 22, 2009 at 8:26 pm #655538
FullTiltParticipantNo, not at Youngstown any more. We would run up there from the Duwamish for lunch every Monday. I wish the guy would pick a spot and stay there. I am sure it is not all his decision though.
January 22, 2009 at 8:33 pm #655539
ellenaterMemberCM, where exactly did you find the truck?

inactiveMemberWell, I made it to Georgetown at lunch and picked up a falafel sandwich today.
Way too much food – OMG.
They are HUMUNGOUS! And, they are $6.50.
Just. Huge.
January 23, 2009 at 12:42 am #655545
GenHillOneParticipantYou had me at beet salad :)
January 23, 2009 at 1:49 am #655546
ellenaterMemberOh thanks, CM. Can’t wait to get one. The Beet salad does sound good…
January 23, 2009 at 2:26 am #655547
HallavaMemberThe falafel truck is back open at 5609 S Corson, s. corson and airport way. Tuesday through Friday 11am – 2pm.
Hallava has decided that Seattle needs more attention than his girlfriend in Portland, so the truck is staying. We are currently investigating an opportunity for a new location which will allow us to be open all day, 7 days a week.
Don’t be afraid of the beets, they’re not like you expect. Selling a sandwich that doesn’t taste good is not good business. If it’s your first trip to the truck please don’t attempt to alter the sandwich. Our sandwich has attained such a good reputation because we make it right.
Our falafel is vastly different from other establishments in town. Our sandwich is a demonstration of what falafel can be when one shows a little concern and creativity.
Come and eat.
January 23, 2009 at 3:12 am #655548
JoBParticipantthanks..
