dawsonctParticipantI think that union protection of unproductive workers happens primarily in the minds of corporatists and their minions.

dawsonctParticipantOn what are you basing your presumption of there being a glut of incompetent teachers in our Nation Hoop? Just something you heard?

hooper1961MemberI NEVER SAID THERE WAS A GLUT OF INCOMPETENT TEACHERS. I said there are incompetent teachers that need to be dismissed.
And I had first hand knowledge of unproductive government employees coasting by doing little to no work.
JoB – one of my HS math teachers was excellent, I hated him while in school he was tough grader and made us work by teaching to the top 5% of the class making the rest of us struggle but he taught me the subject very well.

i am too tired tonight to go look it up…
but i think i read that the unemployment stats for teachers in this downturn is nearing 30%.
somehow…
i don’t think they are teaching 30% less kids…
since most teachers now have their performance graded by testing…
i am guessing the incompetents went in the first round.

hooper1961Memberyour guess is wrong, layoffs are done seniority not based on results of the kids

redblackParticipantthat’s funny, hooper. my parents retired from DOD. their comment was that private contractors – who have been all the rage since reagan – were the incompetent boobs. overpaid and underworked. using 3 people to do the job of 1 person so that the parent company could get those free taxpayer monies and sell $1,000 hammers.
i think you “independents” should stop complaining about the cost of everything and start appreciating the value of having things like teachers, carpenters, plumbers, cops, utility workers, etc. who are able to live comfortably and build futures for themselves and their families.
the “keeping more of your money” argument is a sham and a lie perpetuated on you by people who want you to pay less in taxes and more in bills.
government is not the problem. it is the solution.

paint me silly if you like…
but i have lived long enough to know that seniority is more often than not earned
it’s a funny thing.. but pretty much universal
the more you practice doing something
the better you get at it
even if it’s something you don’t want to do.
and it’s a good thing too
because that seniority is not enough to protect teachers these days if their student scores don’t reflect their experience.
Teaching has been traditionally a women’s job because the wages it offers pretty much dictated a second job to provide for a family.
Our teachers were underpaid and overworked before the layoffs. It’s much much worse now.
Stop targeting working Americans Hoop…
the guys you want sit in very cushy seats paying advertising firms to work you up about all of those deadbeats so they can distract you from picking your wallet.
