I heard a story on NPR on my way to work this morning about Earl Johnson, a famous songwriter and composer with roots in West Seattle. I just wondered if anyone knew which house he grew up in, in West Seattle?

Thanks, Ken. The question was first posted on our FB wall and I’d sent it in turn to an expert … perhaps he will still know exactly which of the houses next to 2640 Walnut. For the actual events at Folklife, scroll down on this schedule page to tonight 7 pm and beyond:

I sent the question to expert West Seattle (and folk music) historian Clay Eals – who also edited the fabulous West Side Story (and wrote a nationally acclaimed book on the music of Steve Goodman, http://www.clayeals.com ) – and just heard back. He says the exact house was 2632 Walnut Ave SW. He also reminds us that the Earl Robinson centennial tribute continues tonight at 5 pm at Folklife.

Wow – I’m really impressed that we have a thread going on the Earl Robinson story.

Earl would turn 100 on July 2nd… Maybe we should have a hootenanny on Alki that day????

    Best,

    B. J. Bullert, who lived at 2640 Walnut Ave SW
