Submitted for your consideration, the abduction of a ducky yesterday (Sunday, Jan 11 at exactly 3 p.m.)

I call this video “Rubber Ducky Abduction (Maybe Stolen… Depends)

    http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds73uy3GKV0&feature=channel_page

Since I do adorable ducky garden art with the what have become the infamous Lulu Duckies of West Seattle, I am often asked “Do people try to steal them?”

Well, yes, they do. People being, well, “people.” The Lulu Duckies have been pretty good at defending themselves. They have their secret devices. One of those, now, not so secret devices, consists of surveillance cameras… truth is, we and our neighbors decided to put in surveillance cameras because our neighbors and us have had too many hit-and-runs and vandalism happen in a high “turn around” traffic area (kind of like a boardwalk).

BTW, the ducky that was abducted and the ducky that the boy monster was thinking about abducting were pretty well attached. Stapled and inserted onto a light, so it takes EFFORT to pull it off. As you will note, the girl monster did NOT hesitate and used a fair amount of force to remove the ducky.

Actually, these little duckypaths cased my entire front garden art display, lifting up every one of the duckies to see if they could be stolen. Surprise, they are all locked down.

Know these people? Ask them to return the ducky. If they want one so bad, just ask me. I can get them one. This is not about loss of property, it is about, really, don’t do this kind of stuff to your neighbors, really….

On another note, I can just hear the “Pulp Fiction” style conversation between the girl monster and the boy monster — “Uh, put that back. We don’t want to be greedy. You know about greed, right? Greed can get you in trouble. If you are going to steal, steal with moderation. I learned that in church, once, moderation. It is the Christian thing to do. Steal with moderation…”

For more on the scene of the crime, visit the Duckies Rule! website garden page. The ducky that was abducted was a Lulu Duckdude (like a Duckette, but male), and can be seen more clearly at the main page of http://www.DuckiesRule.com in the foreground.

(For cynics only — yes, it was a true abduction. No, it was not staged to get attention!)

I think I’ve seen that girl’s picture on the wall at the post office.

She’s alledgedly affiliated with the DLO (Duckie Liberation Organization). They apparently feel that the “keeping” of duckies, and doing such things as stapling duckies, and placing lights up their…..ummmm….well…. is “cruel”. ;-)

Seriously, I hope these youngsters realize the error of this abducktion, and return the duckie.

And thanks again, Ducktitude, for your fun and creative contribution to the community, and good luck in recovering the duckie.

Hi miws! Haven’t stopped laughing now, for a few minutes, well, just to get some CPR… but otherwise, funny, funny, funny.

Yah, I know, I can’t say “no duckies were harmed in this display.” But, you know, it all depends on what the word “harm” means. I do have some stunt duckies who are willing to do just about anything for attention.

    Stunt duckies, eh?

Is one of them named “Evel Ducknievel”, perchance? ;-)

Miws! I like it because it sounds like Evel da Keneval. Which is glorious.

BTW – oh purveyor of ducks and newfound favorite West Seattle Creative Person… where do you live that you’re plagued by this kind of teenage hipster scum? Because… if you bait them with black nail polish and Radiohead CDs you can lure them back and cuss them heartily. Or I can do it for you.

I know where the duckies live! I walk the dog there all the time. Gonna’ wave and smile at that camera from now on, for sure. Make up for some of that bad passerby juju maybe….

    Oh, funny forum people.

    Thanks for being YOU!

Yep… you are psychic, miws. Evel Ducknievel it is, and his partner, Eva, do a stunt you have got to see to believe, but it is on skateboards… The ducky world is kind of like a parallel universe, but with better rules and kinder behavior… go figure.

To wave and smile at the camera, just look for the birdhouse that looks like it is staring at the duckies. Birdhouses make the best camera housings. Comfy…

I know, someone is gonna say, “in that Lulu Ducky universe, nothing is as it seems.” Which reminds me, I WILL start working on a duckylingo ducktionary as soon as I can stop laughing about all this. One of the words will be “duckyspeak.”

For those who have read 1984 (and, honestly, if you haven’t, you should, since, well, things are looking a lot like 1984)… duckyspeak would be the opposite of duckspeak.

And, maybe close to finally (who knows), check http://www.ADuckyWorld.com for more duckosophy.

On another note, surveillance cameras have caught some pretty interesting phenomena around these parts. The best, in my opinion, was the video of our favorite outdoor cat (who has refused to come indoors for anyone for years) STALKING a coyote.. yep, harassing a coyote… that is, until the coyote’s partner showed up. The cat, Buffy, appears in the Christmas Ducky Holiday video.

Buffy, instinctively knew he (yah, he) could not go up against two coyotes, but one, well, that looked kind of interesting for a few moments. Yep, Buffy is a character.

I’ve actually been contemplating, the last couple of days, walking to Lincoln Park and back, via Lowman Beach, much as I did a couple of months or so ago.

At this time, I’m thinking maybe Thursday or Friday, as they appear to be the soonest “sunny” days. (Other than Wednesday, for which I have another commitment).

I’ll hafta give a little smile and wave to the birdhouse too!

Got it. Birdhouse. Very, very stealthy. ;)

Buffy IS a bodacious boy! Wow. That would be incredible video to see. Any chance of sharing…that would be cool!

Ya’ know how WS loves it’s cats and coyotes!

Yep, I will post the Buffy the Coyote Slayer video right now at youtube and get you the link. Also, if anyone wants some good information on surveillance camera technology and what I use (which is fairly cheap, but not inexpensive), let me know. It has been extremely nice to have and, of course, I passed the concept by my neighbors to make sure they were comfortable with the concept and to tell them how it worked so they wouldn’t get some misapprehension about “spying” on the neighbors… yah, I have a friend who installed some surveillance cameras, but pointed one a little too directly at a neighbor’s place… you can imagine the outcome on that.

My system is very tightly targeted. So, you might even be on the sidewalk and it won’t record you because it’s motion detector is extremely targeted to the duckies only. Hmmm… sometimes technology is so cool… other times it is so, well, bad news for the brain…

Enough. I will post Buffy and let you know. Take care.

    Okay, it is posted. http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=H3pbG0xb3Zc

Note that Buffy knows his limits and watch to the very last frame… where the second coyote shows up. Wondering what happened after that? Buffy scooted off. He knows two on one ain’t fair, and ain’t gonna go well.

So far, by the way, no coyotes have caused any problems in this immediate neighborhood. One night I chased one with a baseball bat through Lowman Beach Park just to make sure he/she knew they were noticed. Haven’t seen them back to this area since.

As everyone knows, there is a family pretty much living in Lincoln Park but they are pretty nomadic and probably show up in a lot of places. Too bad we can’t RFID them and track them on the Web for the fun of it. Would that be considered coyote abuse? I hope not and it would be truly informative as to the coyote’s urban habits.

Well, I don’t know that I would have believed it until I saw it with my own eyes.

He looked to be utterly fearless. And,he looks big too. No wonder there have been no coyote problems in your immediate ‘hood, given that you’ve got “Buffy The Coyote Tracker” hanging around!

I agree, some hard data on the coyotes would be really interesting to me as well. I have wondered myself at what point the Dept. of Wildlife will do that, if ever. Interesting to contemplate. Thanks for sharing that. I’m sure others will enjoy it as well!

Hi All: Come on down and enjoy the duckies. They will be turning to Valentine’s Duckies during this week… well, most of them. You won’t believe them until you see them. I have done my first animatron… Wild Thing (Rocker Love Ducky!)

As for the size of Buffy — lots of hair, I mean lots of hair makes him look BIG. Hey, it works!

More about the Buffy video. If you will notice, he actually had the one coyote intimidated. The coyote does a little head dip submissive thing…

Oh, did indeed notice that coyote being a wee bit concerned. I wouldn’t reckon any coyote will take that slayin’ kitty lightly, Duckitude. That Buffy is a fearless force of furry fierceness, for sure.

Duckitude: TAHNK YOU for contributing a little slice of funny heaven to our neighborhood. My bitter half and I were on a walk one day down at Lincoln Park, and went a bit beyond the path. We happened upon your house, and it made me smile and giggle. We spent quite a bit of time looking at all the duckies. We’ll have to come visit again soon!

That was funnier than watching Mayor Nickels order from Starbucks! “Buffy The Coyote Slayer”….just wondering why in the “theft” video that the 2 dogs caught on tape didn’t step up to the game? They both seemed to look at each other and flash some kind of gang signal?
