I saw a dog in a parked car the other day (Metropolitan Mrkt), it was hot out, the dog was large and in a small car, the window was cracked, but it was not in the shade. I left a nice note on the windshield reminding the owner of the serious hazards of leaving dogs in hot cars. I checked to see if the dog was still there when I left the store. Thank goodness the car and dog were gone.

Thank myrbob1. I just left a note on someones’ care yesterday at Thriftway to let them know four different dogs have died in hot cars recently, so please leave their dog at home. The dog was really hot, but not yet in distress, but I kept an eye on him until the owners returned to their car.

Just a reminder to everyone that a car can heat up 20 to 30 degrees within minutes, killing your beloved pet…especially when parked in the sun.

A girl on Bainbridge Island earlier in the week left her dog in the car and it died from the sweltering hot sun. She said that she forgot about the dog. Yeah.. I guess that makes sense.

an interesting take on this subject…in the news today :

how does one not notice that the dog is not around, if you’re getting ready for work, and then…wouldn’t dog be sleeping on the back seat? How does one not see that when one gets in the car? Unless, of course, it’s an SUV, and dog is way in back.

I guess I just assume (not being a dog owner), that when you’re leaving the house, and leaving a pet behind for the day, that you check that it has food, water, etc, etc…you pay attention. Or do I just not get it?

I do wonder how someone would not notice that their dog was in the car, however I got into my car yesterday (was picked up) and didn’t notice my dog, who’d been sleeping in the back of our Jeep (we had taken the back seats out) until about 15 minutes after we left the point of pick-up.

This just made headline news. I think it should be a felony if you leave your dog in a car and it dies of heat exhaustion. Poeple never learn no matter how many time they see other people do it.

that is utterly heartbreaking. after living 16 years, a pretty long time for a dog, to die that way. i imagine she is shattered. i don’t know how you’d live with the pain and remorse.
