herongrrrlParticipantI have an older model Canon powershot that I love, but for some reason it has stopped focusing when I take indoor pictures. Is there any place here in WS I could take it for an honest assessment of whether or not it would cost more to repair or replace?

KevinParticipantI’m not aware of any camera repair shops here in West Seattle. There are a few around Seattle, and Canon has a repair depot where they can give you an estimate if you send your camera to them.
.
Which model do you have? And how many mega pixel? It could be cheaper to find a good used Canon on craigslist. You may even be able to “upgrade” for the same price as a repair might cost.
.
I see great deals on Canon gear all the time. Last “NEW” camera I bought was about seven years ago. Just like cars, let someone else take the depreciation :)

clark5080ParticipantIt’s a point and shoot not worth repairing.I doubt canon would even try to repair it

KevinParticipantClark, I would agree that fixing a point n shoot might be a waste of money.
.
Just as an FYI – Canon WILL fix point n shoot cameras. A number of the S series Digital Elph cameras had an issue with a memory error.
.
Canon has a campaign where they will fix cameras with this particular issue for FREE. I sent in a camera that I bought on Craigslist for $30 and they fixed it, no questions asked.
.
Canon is a great company!
.
herongrrrl – I would do a good Google search for the Canon model that you own and see if there is a chance that this could be a known issue with a repair campaign. You might just get lucky.
.
I have seen other Canon issues where they will fix cameras with known issues for free.

suzanneParticipantI had a Powershot A70 that was malfunctioning and Canon repaired it for free. The Canon website had all the pertinent info about which cameras were affected. The customer service rep I spoke with was also great.
