WSBKeymasterI know you guys are nuts about it.
Forgive me if this is old news. I may be the only person in WS who still has not made it to the Swinery. But because Skillet used to come to WS, I’m still on their mailing list, and they just sent a note that their famous “Bacon Jam” will be sold at The Swinery starting next week.
For your last minute Christmas-shopping pleasure.
And while you’re near the Admiral District, please visit our Admiral seasonal sponsors :)

SueParticipantTR, I haven’t been to the Swinery either, so there are least 2 of us who haven’t yet. :)
December 19, 2009 at 5:36 am #684406
austinMemberThey’re doing $2/lb off the regular price of bacon for the rest of the month, and they have bacon caramels as well.

cjboffoliParticipantSkillet’s bacon jam is already on sale there. I bought some this week. When I was in there the other day people were buying whole trays of their bacon cinnamon rolls. I haven’t tried their bacon shortbread yet but I have been very impressed with some of their prepared foods, like their lamb stew and their cassoulet.
Sue you should at least get over there at lunch to try their soups and sandwiches. Really good!

timeslidParticipantThis probably isn’t a secret, but…..
THEY HAVE CARMEL BACON CANDY!!!!!!! O.M.G.!
I really like the stuff.
December 20, 2009 at 1:04 am #684409
SueParticipantOkay, I finally got over to Swinery today. Went for bacon, but they were out until tomorrow, but I still managed to spend $40 in there. I see what you guys mean about that. :)
So now that I have a jar of bacon jam, what do I do with it? :)
December 20, 2009 at 1:09 am #684410
charlabobParticipantThe pork filets wrapped in bacon are amazing. Even I can cook ’em and make ’em taste good. (Not that I do.) :-) And the bacon short bread is unique and wonderful.
Not to threadjack, but if you’re even willing to try pate, try the chicken liver pate.
In fact, if you’re there now, you’ll see c@lbob, buying our dinner (and breakfast and snacks.)

velo_nutParticipantJust remember… eat less and exercise more :)

JoBParticipantvelo-nut…
you don’t have to eat much of the bacon jam to get a real flavor boost.. it’s that good.
December 20, 2009 at 1:49 am #684414
cjboffoliParticipantSue: You did well. I can never get out of there for less than $60.
PS: Those little point-of-sale packages of fudge brownies that they have up on the counter are the devil’s work too.
December 20, 2009 at 1:53 am #684415
velo_nutParticipantThanks to those who got my joke.
I’m a bacon-holic. During the off-season I really have to watch it!
December 20, 2009 at 4:36 am #684416
SueParticipantChristopher, it would’ve been $60+ I spent if they weren’t out of bacon and bacon burgers. ;)

JoBParticipantDecember 20, 2009 at 11:04 am #684418
JanSParticipantvelo-nut..bacon is one of those things I try to stay away from and just can’t. If you’re gonna have it, try the Swinery…it’s sooooo good. And if you ever go to Full Tilt Ice Cream in WC, be sure to go when he has Memphis King…peanut butter banana ice cream w/ chocolate covered bacon – to die for. Just ride your bike there and back – lol…the long way :->

flowerpetalMemberIn another thread I suggested making hot buttered rum mix with soy ice cream and vegan butter. And then there was yesterday when I was compelled to go the the Swinery for the bacon jam. I am mMaking biscuits this morning and its no secret what’s going in between the slices of warm out-of-the-oven biscuits.

kParticipantwe moved only a few blocks from the swinery. i fear going in there for the first time. bacon is a gateway meat….afraid i will become a regular there.
December 20, 2009 at 5:21 pm #684421
LAPMemberHoliday Party last night….every appetizer that was wrapped with bacon was devoured with glee…..we’re like those dogs on tv with the bacon strip snacks!
December 20, 2009 at 5:33 pm #684422
cjboffoliParticipantIsn’t it remarkable how bacon’s appeal just universal? Though actually, last month when I was traveling through the Middle East I was interested to see how they manage to cope without bacon: At breakfast they’d serve a bacon facsimile made of beef and that resembled thin, over-cooked strips of ham that was way over-salted. Part of me wonders if they deliberately made it unappealing so that Muslims won’t have any hint of what they’re missing.
December 20, 2009 at 5:40 pm #684423
JoBParticipantk..
i confess.. that gateway meat isn’t the only one that keeps me from being vegetarian:(
but i do try to consume responsibly… and buying meat at the swinery does just that…
and when it’s that good a little goes a long way.
December 21, 2009 at 12:45 am #684424
SueParticipantStill didn’t get any bacon today, but they have bacon candy bars now, people! Shortbread topped with caramel, with a slice of bacon, and dipped in chocolate. And those bacon shortbread cookies are adorable – shaped like pigs!
December 21, 2009 at 2:31 am #684425
TracyMemberThey have bacon again, but buyer-beware. I know bacon is very fatty (being bacon and all), but the 2 lbs. we got was the fattiest-bacon ever. I fear when it cooks it will be about the size of a pencil. Very disappointing.
December 21, 2009 at 2:55 am #684426
SueParticipantTracy, when I bought their bacon a year or so again, I thought the same thing about the fat, but I was pleasantly surprised when it cooked up. Hope you have the same positive experience I did!
December 21, 2009 at 8:28 pm #684427
grrParticipantthe bacon caramels..drooooool :)
My -ONLY- critique..the Bacon Burger is just too strong a flavor. I’ll usually buy an equal amount of their regular ground beef and mix the two together. Seems to balance it out just fine. Make a fine little snack :)
