charlabobParticipantI realize this is a lost cause, but, as ZG said, links/references please:
“Bush tried three seperate times to get both Fannie and Freddie under control. The dems blocked it. That is where the blame lies.”

beachdrivegirlParticipantThinking further Tonya are you suggesting that this turnmoil all is from less than one year of the Dems control (since the recesssiond did begin last year).. you do realize dont you that the GOP controlled congress for the first six years of Bush’s presidency??

TammiWSMemberDeregulation began in the 80’s under Reagan. This isnt only about mortgages, its about credit and our values regarding money in this country.

AnonymousInactiveThomas Edsall (pulitzer prize winner, 25 year Washington Post political writer) has an good rebuttal to this social engineering bullsh*t the republicans are trying to push as the reason for the current economic problems.

AnonymousInactiveAnd from factcheck: *Who Caused the Economic Crisis*

They list enough blame to go around for everyone and in conclusion offer:
*The U.S. economy is enormously complicated. Screwing it up takes a great deal of cooperation. Claiming that a single piece of legislation was responsible for (or could have averted) is just political grandstanding.*

mellaw6565MemberTonya – government is a social contract. Try reading Hobbes, Locke, Rosseau and John Stuart Mills. The function of government is to take care of the people according to the 6 principles laid out in the Constitution.
JT – good stuff! Thanks for the links.

TrickParticipantTonya,
if you’re going to plagarize a reply from BOB (half way down the page) then at least attribute it to him, or are you HIM???

AnonymousInactiveThat’s so funny Trick. Second time she’s been busted. Good job! I think her credibility is officially over. Apparently original thought is not a quality of this poster, and I’m done defending their right to speak. Fool me once….

JanSParticipantOops…caught again, Tonya….

TrickParticipantJT,
I’d like to think people can think for themselves or at least use a quote mark in referencing someone.
“Fool me once, shame on….shame on you, fool me, can’t get fooled again”
George Bush

CaitParticipantHow is everyone feeling about the sweeteners in the new deal? I’m not entirely clear on how that’s going to work, but interesting…
Can I just take a moment to say that someone quoting Ann Coulter on here is absolutely ridiculous and negligent. She is a ridiculous, idiotic and disrespectful cartoon of a person. Anyone who would so much as THINK about speaking positively about a woman who said what she did about 9/11 widows should be ashamed of themselves simply by association. She is a hate monger of the worst degree (moreso, I say, than Rev. Wright who dared to say “god damn America”. No contest in my opinion.) She is a joke in the political world on both sides of the aisle and to quote her shows a huge amount of disregard for her overall views as well as a general negligence in political discussion. I realize this sounds harsh, but I have to say I have no interest in carrying on a discussion with someone who takes her seriously. She’s sick in the head.
End rant.

JanSParticipantCait…thank you for that. I have felt that way about Ann Coulter for a long time. I’m not a Repub, but if I was, I’d distance myself from what she says as far away as I could get. She’s despicable (sp).

beachdrivegirlParticipantTrick,
You gave me a great laugh today!
Cait,
I am with you that I have mixed feelings with the news of the bailout. I need to do a beat more research on the revisions that were made.

CaitParticipantBDG – I heard some stuff about school funding and bettering health insurance. It sounds like it may eventually do a lot of the things that the candidates are hoping to do or at least help along the way. I’m just sure there has to be a catch…
