Hi! Are there any really good Easter egg hunts in West Seattle that are toddler friendly. Do’s and Don’ts would make my First Easter with her very helpful.

Hi – I can’t help you with the do’s and don’ts as our kid is way past that age BUT there is a toddler-specific event this Thursday at High Point Community Center, egg hunt and more, they do it every year. It and the other upcoming egg hunts are listed in the story we published on Saturday night (as well as in our Events calendar):

West Seattle Easter: 5 egg hunts (and more) in the next week

The one at West Seattle Thriftway is hands-down the most popular, so I *can* offer one *do* for that – get there early! The line forms outside. That one is 9 am Saturday morning.

    Have fun, whatever you do!

I used to love bringing my kids to the Thriftway egg hunt – they are too old now – BUT even in the last year or two when we went it seems like things have gotten a little out of hand there. Parents with kids in strollers are racing down the aisles rummaging through the shelves looking for only the “golden” eggs (worth big prizes). Thriftway asks people to limit themselves to about 20 eggs but of course I see parents of toddlers and infants with stuffed grocery bags. It’s just kinda gross to me. It’s a shame because Thriftway is a class act and so generous, I hate to see people taking advantage of that.

So … just be prepared for that kind of scene if you go.

I went once to a public hunt. Never again. Too many obnoxious parents.

The toddler one probably wouldn’t be too bad.

We’ve been going to the Thriftway hunt for the past 3-4 years, since our daughter was old enough and interested in participating. But, to be honest, I’m starting to feel less than thrilled about continuing, for the reasons listed, above. (OK, and because I’m finally realizing just how candy-centric all these holidays are, especially with kids, and our waistlines and dental bills reflect that. Blech.)

It’s a shame too, because the kids really look forward to it, every year, but we’ve all witnessed some truly unfortunate behavior by the parents who shove, push, grab, pick up the eggs and shake them before carelessly tossing them aside if they don’t contain a prize ticket… What an example to set for your little ones.

I don’t blame Thriftway one bit, because they’ve always been gracious and just really great about everything. I just think the fact that they offer the possibility of some pretty sizable prizes, sets the tone for the greedy grabbers who see the opportunity to get something/anything for free. It’s disheartening to watch the decline of something that once seemed like innocent holiday fun.

Ha! Yes Add, it wasn’t quite that bad, but pretty close :/

Toddlers I know are just as happy hunting candy eggs at home with parents (who of course act surprised whenever they find one!) It’s the preschool ages 3-5 who most enjoy community egg hunts…

Last year we took our niece (who was 14 months at the time) to the Eastridge Church egg hunt at Lincoln park. We’re not affiliated with the church at all, but they did a fabulous job. Had separate areas for the different age groups and the toddler area had more than enough eggs for the little ones, even those who didn’t really understand the concept to enjoy themselves. We’ll definitely be back this year!

Watch out for super obnoxious parents who are clamoring over the little kids to make sure THEIR little kids get treats. Crazy town! I wouldn’t take my daughter again. She’s almost 6 now, but still loves hunting for eggs and treats. We just do it w/ friends in the backyard (nice weather), or the house (standard Easter Sun weather).
