In reply to: Michael Moore in praise of Trump???
captainDaveParticipantJ242: It doesn’t seem like you have much more than a very basic understanding of business. There are numerous situations where negotiation after the fact is just common practice. Your doctor, for instance, might send a bill to an insurance company for $30K knowing that it will be negotiated down to $22K or whatever by the insurance company. In another example, I was involved with a dot-com company years ago that negotiated a $500K legal bill down to $150K and some stock options. That’s the way it works. Lawyers, doctors insurance companies, property developers and so-forth build negotiation into their respective business models. Business relationships of this nature are not like employment contracts. And yes, I have negotiated bills down after the fact with engineering and design clients many times and continued doing work for them. If Trump had done anything criminal, he would have been in jail by now. Trump does not have the same government protections as Hilary Clinton.

J242ParticipantDave: “You already posted that. So what? He didn’t pay some lawyers their entire bill. I hope he starts a trend. Most of them overcharge. Nobody is really worth $1000 an hour to do legal work.”
So, you’d be okay being hired to perform a service and have me say “Nah, I don’t think your work is worth what I already said I would pay you. Even though you totally delivered above and beyond what I asked for, I’m only paying you 75 cents on the dollar. Deal with it.” to you? I highly doubt that. There’s also a reason I’m re-posting, you don’t seem to understand that he regularly operates in bad faith. He does not have ethical business standards and he’s not very successful compared to his peers or anyone with an index funds investment.

You should check some of the 100+ reports they link to.
“Find something relevant to discuss. This is boring.”
Something relevant? How is the fact that he’s been successfully sued repeatedly for his business and personal failures not relevant to the fact that your candidate of choice is morally, ethically and professionally devoid of merit? That IS the point. Our POTUS is the highest representative of our country and if his campaign has to take away his Twitter access to keep him from personally insulting even more people that is not a good spokesperson for our nation.

redblackParticipantJTB: i just had a post disappear into the ether. thanks, dude. you broke the internet.
it was a long and thoughtful opinion on why government(s) should be reaping the benefits of increased tax receipts during a boom cycle, repaying the social security trust fund, and repaying debt.
too tired to re-do. your loss. :P
November 7, 2016 at 4:25 pm #863909In reply to: Michael Moore in praise of Trump???
JTBParticipantcD, your response to JanS about Trump’s relationship with his lenders indicates either you didn’t read the article she provided, or didn’t understand it. The notion that “he already has the money” is simply wrong, glaringly wrong, incomprehensibly wrong. The point is that he is a huckster. So much so that his sources for providing funding are increasingly dwindling. So much so that he is reliant on earning fees for using his brand name to others who actually have real money to invest in projects. Even that has faltered in the aftermath of his deplorable campaign which has led investors in several Trump Hotel projects to seek to remove his name from the property.
I truly hope you didn’t read the article. Otherwise, we are left of come to conclusions about your reading comprehension. Mmmm, given your acceptance of Mr. d’Souza as a credible source of anything, I am left to refer to my comments on redblack’s thread about sources.
November 7, 2016 at 3:52 pm #863907KADParticipantPlease provide some feedback on Kennedy High School. Would be nice to see some from parents and students as well as long time residents. I’ve read that it is a big of a party school. The online reviews from students almost seem so plentiful that it makes it appear that the school solicits the students to write them. If you know of someone else’s experience there, I’d like to hear that as well. Thanks
November 7, 2016 at 3:32 pm #863904In reply to: Michael Moore in praise of Trump???
captainDaveParticipantJansS: Why is the health of the lender of any consequences to Trump’s companies if he already has the money? I am pretty sure the loan terms would have been established when the loan was drawn. Do I care about the financial health of my mortgage lender? No. If they fail, then I just pay my payments to whomever takes over the loan. Who cares? I don’t owe any allegiance to banks or credit card companies just because I use them.
J242: You already posted that. So what? He didn’t pay some lawyers their entire bill. I hope he starts a trend. Most of them overcharge. Nobody is really worth $1000 an hour to do legal work. Why is it ok for doctors to always get their invoices cut down by the insurance companies? Find something relevant to discuss. This is boring.

first link.. op ed piece by “Former Wonkette editor; current vagrant”
second link sources Clinton Cash … which has been pretty much debunked
third link. there is no there there.. worst you can say is that some things look bad
oh. and you should be aware that if anyone roots around in your dirty laundry sooner or later they will find an embarrassing stain…third link.. another opinion piece with lots of allegations referencing an investigation in which no charges were filed…apparently.. if anyone said it anywhere.. or even hinted at it.. it’s true?
and your answer to politifact’s analysis of her truthfulness … which you must not have read because if you had you would have found it contained categories like mostly true covering “technical accuracy” … is to say you don’t believe it therefore she is a liar.
i get that you don’t believe anyone who tells you anything you don’t want to hear
but will believe anyone who tells you something that you want to hear
but that doesn’t make any of it truth…what makes something truth is evidence..
schools out
i really want to thank you for convincing so many people how important it was to get out there and vote in this election.. if only to stop this kind of “reasoning” from becoming our new national standard.
I read somewhere this morning that 44+% of Seattle voters have turned in their ballots… i am hoping that will at least double by the end of the day tomorrow.

JoBParticipantCaptain Dave..
Trump doesn’t pay his loans back. he bankrupts…
And Trumps loans have international roots.. some of which aren’t going to want to follow the dictates of an American bankruptcy court…but hey.. why should you worry? Trump would never lie, cheat, steal or try to wiggle out of his obligations … except.. he has a proven track record of doing exactly that.
somehow i think giving him America as a business bargaining chip wouldn’t turn out so well for us.. it sure didn’t turn out well for the businesses that invested in him.. you know those little guys you keep going on about.. but don’t really care so much about.. “Much of the time, everyone eventually gets paid–just not as fast as the loan contracts specify.”.. You forgot to add or as much… and if they can’t afford an attorney to represent them they are unlikely to get paid at all..
it’s ok to cheat them and employees and… and.. and…
that’s business?

November 7, 2016 at 12:21 pm #863861In reply to: I am a nasty woman and proud of it
JoBParticipantCaptain Dave.. Hillary has had mentors who were supposedly communists and some who were far right conservatives.. does that make her anything expect someone who is willing to learn viewpoints she doesn’t share?
yet.. there you go painting her with a brush that is farther removed than Trump’s dad and granddad..
and with far less evidence of their influence…I do wonder what happened to studying history.. and where the history of Hillary’s criminal acts is actually recorded… lots and lots of allegations but in the end they are like the latest email scandal. all smoke and no fire.. Oooops
After analyzing all of her campaign speeches Politifact rated her the most honest of all of the politicians running for President..
I am not sure if you will ever figure out that accusing someone of something doesn’t make it true.. but i have hope.. even for you.

JanSParticipantDave..please explain…what criminal acts…yes, there’s google…but google hasn’t explained about indictments, trials that happened, convictions…so maybe you can educate us evil libtard commie, no common sense, poor logic, ignorants. So…please tell us what criminal acts…links to sources, and trials , etc. would be lovely…I have had a hard time finding them on the interwebs. But maybe I’m just too stupid to look in the right place…..there’s always that. And since you are the expert in all things Clinton, just thought I’d ask. Thanks .

JoBParticipantGeez Captain Dave
how can you trust a man whose grandad was a criminal and dad was in the KKK ?
what kind of family values do you think they passed down to junior?this notion that if you can find one tidbit of information that you think you can hang your hat on the whole argument must be right is frightening to me…
what happened to careful evaluation of the source so that you understand the biases the argument assumes without proving? What happened to verifying source material with actual evidence not innuendo? what happened to common sense?
it flew out the window when you let your emotions get the better of you.
the only argument for Trump is an emotional argument grounded in hatred…
and we know from history … that story doesn’t turn out well
November 7, 2016 at 9:55 am #863844In reply to: I am a nasty woman and proud of it
captainDaveParticipantJTB: While d’Souza may be a convict, many of the tidbits in his documentary were easy to verify.
So I have to ask, how can anyone trust a woman who’s mentor was a protege and advocate of Al Capone?
Another thing that makes Hillary potentially even more of a “nasty women” is her association with people who are into occult rituals. Even snopes admits John Podesta has been a fan of an satanic occult artist, Marina Abramovic for many years: http://www.snopes.com/john-podesta-spirit-cooking/ Hillary’s long-time association with demented people like Jeffrey Epstein and Anthony Weiner is troubling.
Of course, we all know about Hillary’s white house seance episodes that Bill joked about years ago. I can see why some people think of Hillary as some sort of “high priestess” of the occult. It just seems like a bunch of sick and twisted stupid stuff that I certainly would not want our future president involved with. I don’t want to offend anyone here. What you do in your own home is your business (Unless you are running for political office and have access to nuclear launch codes, that is).
I can now really see what Trump means by “drain the swamp”.
JoB: It sounds like what you experienced was the rest of the country. I don’t know if it is one third half, or two thirds, but it is significant. Being in the high-end turing business, I entertain people from everywhere–both Trump and Hillary supporters. Everybody has their own reasons and perceptions about their candidates. I think irresponsible media bias has polarized the electorate to equalize the candidates and heighten convictions to pump their ratings.
You don’t see Trump signs in Seattle because they get quickly torn down. It doesn’t mean that there are no Trump supporters here (other than me, of course). Seattle just has a higher number of aggressive liberal activists that shout down their opposition–making it appear that liberalism is the vastly dominant consensus.
I have tried to bring perspective from the “other side” which is based by and large, on logic and reason rather than emotion. You have to realize Seattle is a bubble. What works here isn’t working for the rest of the country. Seattle is like Norway where we are benefiting by a net “tech” revenue surplus that is feeding in from the rest of the world. But this situation may not last forever. Reality has a funny way of creeping in as it did for places like Detroit and Baltimore.
We have the freedom to discuss these things today because a group of predominantly “white men” put forth the notion that all were created equal. I don’t want to see that change.
November 7, 2016 at 12:00 am #863825In reply to: Michael Moore in praise of Trump???
captainDaveParticipantJ242: What do you expect Wall Street pundits to say? They bought Hillary and depend on her to do things that continue to take wealth from US citizens to pump the markets for her elite supporters. Get up to speed!–at least follow Bernie’s bouncing ball. Keep in mind that “they” threatened the same instant chaos on the Brexit vote too–which didn’t materialized. However, the markets are going to eventually crash no matter who wins because they are way overvalued.
Trump sure gets a lot of buildings put up for supposedly not paying people. Your assessment does not seem to make much sense. Just like your assumption that I am not successful. If I wasn’t, I would not be complaining about excessive taxation. I do just fine without employees. But I am sure there are some who would love to get involved with the things I do. It’s too bad your socialist government wants to keep them poor.
November 6, 2016 at 10:35 pm #863811In reply to: Michael Moore in praise of Trump???
J242ParticipantDave: “Did you really audit the books of the 500 companies Trump is involved with? Or did you just get all your information spoon fed to you from the establishment controlled media again? ”
I would hardly call Media Matters, Snopes, FactCheck or the hundreds of lawsuits targeting him for the same issues “establishment controlled media”. Watch out, the WSB might post an article about something happening at a political rally! If it doesn’t massage your opinion it must mean the WSB sold out to the big MSM right? Sheesh… As such a savvy businessman with so many successful businesses I would have assumed you’d be familiar with the concept of “selling out your good will”. He does it constantly with small businesses and contractors, especially when he doesn’t plan to use them again. Why pay what he agreed when he can cut it down by 1/4 or 1/3 and know that the person will have to take it because fighting it would be even more costly for them? That’s predatory and despicable.
“Besides, you do realize that the president does not actually pay the bills for the US government, don’t you? I am not voting for Trump for his paymaster skills, but rather his common sense, realistic approach to fixing things that we all know are severely broken.”
Which common sense? When he’s pro-life or pro-choice? When he’s pro-immigration or anti-immigration? When he’s for the Iraq war or against claiming he was never for it? Luckily for you, any position you might have an opinion on he’s got you covered for regardless of which side you fall on! lol
“If you think Trump is so bad, why do you excuse Hillary’s integral role in the White Water scam where so many innocent people lost everything?”
So, you have some kind of smoking gun that the FBI and multiple DAs couldn’t find for over a decade? By all means, send it to Breitbart and see if it goes anywhere, or you can stop posting straw men up everywhere and address the meat of the issue. There is no point by point comparison.
You are supporting a misogynistic, racist, close minded, hateful person who’s business record can’t compare to a basic index fund investment strategy.“What do you think is going to happen when the debt crisis comes to head soon?”
Why do you think his tax cuts plan will in any way reduce the debt? Do you know what the definition of insanity is? Doing the same thing repeatedly expecting different results. Boosting the top while cutting income to the government to pay it’s debts didn’t work under Reagan, or Bush Sr, or Bush Jr. Why do you think it will work now? Maybe because you’d rather not actually think critically about it and want to keep sticking to your emotions?
” I will let you in on a little secret: It doesn’t matter who get’s elected, the market is going to crash and the government will be faced with default or currency dilution.”
Oh please do go on oh mystical Captain. What are the lotto numbers going to be tomorrow?
You can assume and hypothesize but the one thing all indicators are point at is that Trump being elected would cause market chaos on the national and international stages.Remember, this is the guy endorsed by the KKK, Putin and Jon-Ill. Great company you keep there Cap’n.
“Trump at least has the experience with handling complex financial reorganizations where Hillary essentially says she will do everything that Venezuela is doing in a financial crisis. (I”
You mean, he’s hired enough attorneys & financial reps to take care of his problems for him. Do you think for even a second he actually went through the paperwork? This coming from a guy who claimed for months that he “couldn’t” release his returns because of being audited? Oh, but him lying to you and now just saying he won’t because he doesn’t want to is fine by you? Your criteria for what qualifies as “experience” is very bizarre. Very fitting with your candidate.
“If this country does not find a way to get productive again, a lot of people will die in the streets because of people like you who were unwilling to face reality.”
Except that we’re the 3rd most productive nation in the world and our productivity is increasing. Just because it’s not in your sector doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Renewable energy is a huge, growing market as is the medical industry, IT and many, many more…
http://www.businessnewsdaily.com/9138-fastest-growing-industries.htmlYou see doom & gloom, I see opportunity and potential. Out with the archaic, limited scope and in with the current, broader scope & ideas. You’ve complained about not being able to keep up with the changes to Seattle business structure and that it’s killing local industry yet our local economy grew faster than the national average and is speeding up in growth.
http://www.businessnewsdaily.com/8852-doing-business-in-washington.html
Your experiences and the experiences of the limited pool of people you know does not = the verifiable reality for everyone else.
November 6, 2016 at 10:35 pm #863812In reply to: Michael Moore in praise of Trump???
captainDaveParticipantJanS: Here’s a prediction for you: If Hillary is elected, there will be an economic crash the likes of which you have never experienced. If Trump is elected, the same thing will happen. The only difference is that Trump can recover America from a crash and Hillary cannot. The proof is in history if you bother to study anything but the communist manifesto.
JoB: People will not have as much concern about Social Security under Hillary because she supports both late term and post term (elderly) abortions. When medical services get scarce, we will be talking about the obligation to die. (You will probably have the freedom to choose which day of the week for your death–an amazing array of options from the big government you so deserve.)

He doesn’t want to decrease benefits. He want’s the rich to give up their benefits and eliminate fraud. The plan looks pretty progressive for a republican:

VVTParticipantYou admit you were distracted when you parked (I’m noting the giggling you mentioned between you and the soon-to-be-Mrs); somebody claiming to have been attempting to park in the spot you chose showed aggression; you retaliated using mumbled curse-words. You received clearly-spoken curse-words in kind.
Is the “rant” here supposed to show that you handled a situation well, while another participant overreacted? Because, as you say, there were plenty of parking spots available. If you weren’t “unaware,” to use your word, you might have noticed you were taking a parking spot that a large vehicle was attempting to occupy.
To an unbiased third party this “rant” may look like an attempt by the poster to beat his nemesis by posting first.

Our group of fellows – assembled by invitation, not application! – was an eclectic group, not all in media.

Anyway, I remember Angie as a very ethical, sharp person, talking about her then-nascent work.
Overall, opinion/advocacy is more in style in news media than ever these days, which saddens me as I believe this industry should do less of it, not more of it. I don’t believe that news organizations have any business endorsing, reviewing, opining. Our opinions matter not one whit more than yours, and the time it takes for someone even to write editorials/endorsements/etc. should be spent on more diving into the facts. Which I’m going back to!
