I am not a big drinker either. Mostly wine, but also a dip into a good bourbon now and then. I am not a beer drinker. Never have been big on malt except in ice cream. :) I have a beer after being sick because it seems to help with bringing back the taste buds. Cooking with it and other types of alcohol is different. I do enjoy that.
The Tap Station is certainly my choice of where to go if I want to try something new, has a more neighborhood feel or if I have questions. One of the biggest reasons I like it so much is the selection they have. The Tap Station’s range of wines, beers and ciders is just perfect, not too big and not too small. I really don’t like going into the big stores or bars with the mega selections. I feel overwhelmed. I want to talk about what I am going to drink or cook with and I want the people selling it to know all about it. I get the feeling that when the Tap Station and Locöl choose their stock it is less about what will fly off the shelves and more about what they think their customers will really enjoy.

again, JKB…I have no idea how old you are. I am 69…and lived through the late 60’s in Washington, DC. I was there when MLK was killed, and there were riots in DC, fires, ugliness. For the years I was there, until I joined the army in 1972, I saw many demonstrations, went through tear gas, saw the struggle. That was 50+ years ago. We thought there was progress…how misguided we were/are. The ugliness is out there. Maybe you and I can’t relate because we’re not black. We will never know the fear of just sitting in your car reading a book, for instance, and suddenly, you’re the suspect, for no reason, and you are shot walking backwards, not being aggressive at all, not being a danger to those police who decide to end your life just like that…for no reason. I’m trying to understand how that can happen, trying to understand being afraid to simply leave your home because heaven forbid you are mistaken for someone else, or you have a taillight out, or you are going home from school, and your car breaks down, and being someone 6’2″, all of a sudden you are “looking like one bad dude”. We will never know that fear. Never! I am beginning to understand the Kaepernick protest, the raised fist. It starts the conversation that we badly need to have. We, you and me,we are so privileged because of who we are and what we look like…:(

I had a great time at the Tap Station. They have a great selection with the added bonus of genuinely nice and knowledgeable people.
The tasting was for Ballast Point Brewing. Spoke with the representative about cooking chili. I am using ancho chilies and was hoping to find something that would complement, not smoother the sweetness. He suggested Commodore Stout. With notes of coffee and chocolate, it should work really well. I can’t wait to try it.
They also have something called; Pumpkin Down. I wonder if I could use it in a pumpkin soup.
Decided against the pizza and switched out the Marionberry pie for Cherry. It has been a while since I have had cherry pie and it sounds delicious.

The Pigeon Hill & White Center area has always had a significantly Large Minority population but what has really pushed this sick lunatic over the edge was when this very nice single mom and her 2 wonderful children move into the neighborhood ?
Why did he pick Stephanie Endres out from all of the other People of color that have been in that neighborhood for generations ? Maybe her beautiful children were laughing too loud on there tricycles.

I started feeling much better on Thursday after being sick for almost three weeks. To celebrate, I am going to the Tap Station where they are having an Autumn Beer Tasting. Yum, yum! After waking up the taste buds, I think maybe a big slice of pizza and a slice of warm Marionberry pie with heavy cream will be in order.
Love this time of year. The air is crisp in the morning and the days warm. This is when the beers, wine and ciders really shine. Soups and stew recipes reappear along with deserts made in cast iron skillets. It doesn’t get any better.

I was really changing my mind about Kaepernick. The switch from sitting on his ass to taking a knee struck a good balance. Then this morning’s news has him at an Oakland high school taking pics with the kids doing raised-fist and laying on the ground doing hands-up during the anthem. He’s back on the naughty list, at least for me.
Completely agree that Charlotte (Tulsa, police conduct, BLM…) should be a separate thread.

Jeannie…once again, the lack of a sense of humor in this community rears it’s ugly head, I believe. Yes, I can see people who walk/run in the early morning or late evening hours adapting this to their needs too. I think it’s a good thing put forth in a very hilarious way. :)
what angers me, I think, is the fact that so many people yell about disrespecting the flag and disrespecting the military, when, in actuality, that has nothing to do with taking a knee during the national anthem, with the topic that Mr. Kaepernick is peacefully “protesting”.False nationalism or patriotism or whatever you want to call it rears its head once again, and the true topic is ignored, and he is called a “traitor” by the execs in the NFL. Shame on them.
I believe it is the responsibility of protest organizers to have a security detail alert and ready to shut down any provocateurs or crazies trying to promote violent behavior within the demonstration. That’s important to keep the message clear and to protect peaceful protesters from harm by the idiots or by police to who may react to isolated provocations more broadly than warranted. That’s based on my experience in the 60’s and of course now there are many more firearms in circulation so it may be more challenging to maintain control.
I think the topic of what professional athletes are doing with their demonstrations during the national anthem to encourage a discussion about injustice should be kept separate from discussions about Keith Scott and the Charlotte demonstrations. If the latter continues would someone start a new thread?
Meanwhile, I very much appreciate how Richard Sherman moved to further the message intended by the national anthem protests. I hope the players continue to incrementally press the issue. I noticed an article about how viewership has been low in the games following the protests and asserting they are the cause for the fall-off. Maybe, maybe not, but even that suggestion help further the discussion about the tolerance Americans have for racial injustice.

Charlotte. Two dead – one by a black police officer, the other by a rioter. I don’t say protestor. Once it escalates to looting and arson, it’s no longer a legal protest. All of this without results from the investigation.
