Thanks to Chris Frankovich (above) and Curry Gibson (below) for photos from tonight’s sunset, as a mile-high layer of smoke again intensified the color. This time, cloud layers also gave the sun a distended appearance before it disappeared behind the Olympics.

Though we’re seeing this side effect of smoke, we’re not breathing it – tonight’s area air-quality levels are resoundingly normal.
