JKB, it wasn’t a memo, it was in the elaboration under each section of the budget:

“Additional outreach and negotiation will need to be completed before the cameras can be deployed, but lack of funding will not be barrier to full implementation. On the path toward DOJ compliance, the 2016 Proposed Budget also includes funding to deploy the Data Analysis Platform needed to appropriately track

    officer performance and personnel management.”

I admit that I see parallels from the first and second sentences as informed by statements over time from the police officers association. I can’t believe they missed the opportunity to see Cynthia Whitlock out the door with a rousing “good riddance.” It would have done wonders to send a message to the ranks and to the community. Instead, they’re sending a different, sad, and disappointing message.

Hey, just a thought. If you can turn it on and it’s not locked, hit the menu button, then scroll to “Settings” then page forward, to the last page. The last item is “Personal Info”, and some people fill out their contact info. Maybe? Good luck!

    Greetings!

We are seeking a part-time nanny for our 11 month old in our home. Hours are ~11:30am-3pm Monday-thursday. This should be a very easy job as the baby is happiest during those hours. Also, we often work from home so there will be help.

We are offering $50 cash per day.

We live in the Genesee neighborhood. Please email or call to discuss.

    Thanks,

Mayor Murray has not done this city any favors, IMO – he is not right about everything…one doesn’t have to concede everything to his judgement, to get along. We do not see behind the scenes, so we truly don’t know their interactions. I also don’t think she’s a bully. She is an elected council member, and as such, has every right to her beliefs, and to stand by them.

As the traffic has been ramping up, I found myself sitting in traffic again. Any little deviation from the norm seems to snarl our residents and reduce common courtesy in the drivers.

Some of these observations are common but correctable. Others I hope will just need to brought to our attention as inappropriate on the road and to take in the future. It is entirely possible that some are not aware of that these things are illegal. This is meant to save you a ticket in future.

Traffic signs are a good start. There are no left turns from the Trader Joe’s parking lot. This is dangerous and I have personally seen close calls there.

In that same area, it would be good to remind drivers that you should not block intersections. 38th is a through street and you should not block the intersection on Fauntleroy.

Please merge/zipper on Fauntleroy Way at Fauntleroy and Edmunds with respect. One car after the other, it isn’t a run to get ahead. If you cannot zipper, don’t speed ahead to make up the distance.

Zippering is a sensitive subject for me. I feel a good reason that traffic stalls or we run into slowness is the lack of zippering. If we all zipper we will see a continuous movement and less stopping. We see backup occur because we break formation and one car has to slow or stop to let another car break the pattern. We have many instances where we have zippers occurring on Fauntleroy and the West Seattle Bridge.

On to the Bridge. Even with the ‘Bus Lane Only’ markings I am still seeing several cars in that lane each morning. I counted 7 today from the Nucor plant to the Avalon entrance. I saw 3 more at the crest of the bridge, and unfortunately 2 more before the 1st street entrance. I understand that traffic is slow, and we all want to get to our destinations, but the solid white line is a no crossing line in WA, I think we forget this. plus there is at times a motorcycle officer waiting to enforce this.

I carpool, and I see a lot. Most of what I see is drivers on the phone talking and a lot more cases than you realize where drivers are using the phone for other things than talking. Slower traffic does not make it safe to use your phone while driving. In bumper to bumper traffic is more important to be aware of what is going on. Not only are you unaware of what is going on in front of you or to you right and left, you impact drivers behind your vehicle.

In summary, all of our personal actions impact those around us and in turn have an effect on the whole of the traffic problem that we all endure. It will only get worse as West Seattle gets more residents. Any little thing we can do to improve our commute should be listed.

Rich and Smitty, you may have seen references to Elizabeth Warren’s recent speech in which she submits that Black Lives Matter, Black Citizens Matter and Black Families Matter as an expression of the continuing quest for real racial equality as commencing in the civil rights struggle.

    Well worth hearing Elizabeth Warren

I hope you pick up on her important observation that 90% of all income earners didn’t partake in new income generated between 1980 and 2012, even though African Americans were more adversely affected because they were starting out with less. The nature of her speech was to highlight the disadvantages African Americans still encounter more than to address the systemic problems we all face.

Of course if you want to look further back into history to appreciate how the conditions developed that made the civil rights movement necessary, you have to consider the failure of Reconstruction that was assured when Hayes cut a deal following the election of 1876 that included withdrawing federal troops from the South. The white southern establishment rapidly restored segregation and racial oppression.

I do agree, Rich, that BLM is in early formative stages and yet to develop into a cohesive movement. But I did notice a comment on the BLM Seattle Facebook page challenging the people who disrupted Bernie Sanders’ speech to actually get involved with BLM, so there does seem to be some recognition that they were more opportunists than representatives of BLM.

Love Joe! The first time I saw him was many years ago at the Showbox. It was great; there was very little seating so you could dance wherever you were standing. Since then I’ve seen him at the Moore and it just wasn’t the same because of the seating. Seattle is just not a city to get up and dance in the aisles in my experience. I’ve not been to the Neptune but just checked out the website for the seating arrangement. Sounds like there will be dancing tonight!

Rich…”most Christians”…don’t speak for everyone. The Old Testament exists…it can’t be ignored. And I shudder at the name Ellen Craswell. Religion needs to stay out of our government period ! Not up for discussion as to whether it should or shouldn’t be. What you believe is different than what I believe, and on and on…for me, mine has nothing to do with anyone else in the world, only in my heart. I wish it was that way for everyone. Ken didn’t say he blamed you for anything. He educatedly posted some quotes from both the old and the New Testament…at least he knows whereof he speaks.

so, Rich…you’re saying that they should act white……yeah, if they’d only act and dress the way I do/say…that’s the ticket. The way someone dresses has nothing to do with their integrity inside, just as the way women dress has not a damned thing to do with rape. Your white privilege is showing. And I won’t even get into the Michael Brown thing…it’s way bigger than him…but you disagree I’m sure.

And, tell me, why are there way too many single white moms living in our city?…WTF does single black moms have to do with anything, except show a bit of racism…it has nothing to do with how we treat them, how we treat anyone.

I find you post offensive from so many angles…but especially from you simply not getting it at all, and you just spouting things from your position as a white man of privilege.

I’m not sure what SPU/Dept of Ecology/Puget Sound Keepers have to do with collecting garbage from a weed farm on a risky stretch of a SDOT operated freeway. The Puget Sound is well protected from the garbage by the large amounts of weeds trapping the garbage.

where did you get the idea that muslims are beheading people or their daughters in the United States?

    HMC Rich
    Participant

Christians aren’t beheading people or their daughters here. Ken, most devout Christians ignore the old testaments barbaric treatment of people. ISIL is not. Call me a troll if you want but don’t blame me for your disdain of religion. That’s on you. We know there are some bad apples in many religions. We know secular people commit crime too! If they are atheist the devil didn’t make them do it. Who is to blame for that? But many religions have tenets to try to live by that are positive. Sharia is not complementary to our system of government, nor to women. It is opposite of how our government is set up. Many of you howl when there is a religious Christian politician running for office, but then you turn around and defend Islam. Don’t believe me? I do believe every time Ellen Craswell has been brought up in the past she was denigrated by the secular left. It gets tiring hearing many people attack Christianity when most people in this country would not dream of a religious based government. Most people put the country ahead of their religion in the U.S. That are elected. After every Islamic attack on domestic soil we hear our elected leaders caution the citizens against reprisals. Well you know what, we don’t want a war with Islam at all, but if they continue to wage war against Western Nations, you will see the electorate start to consider People like Trump. Regarding the original post. I don’t mind government working with institutions to try and help people. I do find it ironic that the”separation between church and state” is not being discussed. Which does lead me to say that a little bit of religious based ideas in Government may not be a bad thing. But too much hurts the Republic.

Tell me, why do many inner city areas all over this country look the same? Why are their way too many single black moms? Why are there so many blacks in prison? There is a huge problem. BLM is similar to occupy or the Tea Party. It is people reaching out for recognition and help. Now, I believe Shama wants to help but It is up to people to change what the elected vote for. It is the people who can stand up and change their lives. Now, are they going to throw the stupid people that interrupted Shama’s fellow socialist Bernie Sanders or are they actually going to try and put out a coherent message?

If they are going to say Michael Brown was a victim then I know they aren’t serious. If they want to address poverty, drug use, crime, profiling, black on black crime and murder, black on white crime, White on black crime, and racism, -and not one sided racism- then I will support them. I say let people make their own way but some lifestyle choices just aren’t productive. That goes for all people. And no more double standards. Stop using that One word. Build empathy. Stop emulating belt less prison fashion with your butts hanging out. That is the dumbest fashion choice EVER. Be loud and proud and be smart. People listen, usually, to common sense solutions. But if you are always blaming everyone else, then you won’t have an audience to support your cause.

I noticed it as well recently while driving out of West Seattle along fauntleroy/west seattle freeway aluminum food containers multiple this area of course inaccessible to trash collection volunteers sdot or department of ecology instead. I reached out and directed puget sound keepers alliance to this thread they were recently here in West Seattle cleaning up debris in and around Alki. They suggested getting ahold of Daniel Sims Ept program manager with SPU who has in the past assisted with organizations doing community car wash events he also works with storm water prevention.

Tricky, White blood cells (and platelets) are replaced rapidly, within 24-24 hours. According to the Red Cross website, if you were in Germany for a cumulative period of five years or more from 1980 to now, you can’t donate; otherwise, you’re fine. The window is smaller for time spent in UK countries. They have a section on travel issues and discussion about variant Jacob Creutzfeldt disease on the Red Cross website.

He loves Seattle and always puts on a great show.

being in a service industry where most of my “service” is generated by doctor referrals and paid by insurance, I can honestly say I get little to no tips at all. People figure they don’t have to when it’s paid by someone else. The competition for cash clients in my industry is unbelievable, and I simply don’t have many. Even then, people feel that what we charge is enough…no need to tip. I am usually surprised that I get one when I do. Yes…it’s arbitrary.
