Curious KidStuff in the Junction has a little artist studio that you can book for birthday parties, and the kids get to paint and do crafts and then have cake! We have done it twice and it was a blast, a little pricey, but if you consider all the cleanup and preperation that you wouldn’t have to do, I thought it was well worth it!

I have 1 email address and so does my husband, we use the same connection to the Internet, he has a laptop I have a desktop they are in the same house. I get 1 set of emails on my desktop and another totally different set of emails on his laptop. I have called Comcast to come investigate it and each ime the tech can not find a solution as he has never seen this before. So I receive massive amounts of emails, at one accoount but on 2 computers.

Lattemom, why don’t you actually *get* a job and then we can talk about what is professional and what is appropriate in the workplace. I am considered a professional by my bosses whether I wear tennis shoes or dress shoes.

I honestly wish that WSB would ban you because you are a troll.

We did Coleman pool for a birthday party. Fun! You can also rent out Southwest Pool if you want indoors. the only problem with Coleman is that you can’t rent it until 7pm and it starts to get cold.

I agree with all the other suggestions. Camp Long is great. You could do a bbq. fun!

For indoors the YMCA is good too.

This discussion got a bit lost with the election talk last month, so I wanted to update the reply I received.

For the original discussion on traffic circle rules and yielding here in the forum, you can see https://westseattleblog.com/blog/forum/topic.php?id=191&replies=19

I had said I would be contacting SDOT to find out the answer on enforcement of “short left turns” in traffic circles, and this was their reply:

“Thank you for your inquiry regarding the rules pertaining to left turns at neighborhood traffic circles. You are correct that the Washington Driver Guide (and the state law that the guide implements), does not distinguish between

    neighborhood traffic circles and roundabouts.

Practically speaking, a left turn can be performed safely in front of a neighborhood traffic circle since they are typically located on low traffic volume and low speed residential streets, unlike roundabouts, which control traffic flow on higher volume arterials.

However, under a strict interpretation of the Driver Guide and state laws, this is not a legal left turn, and similarly to roundabouts, a driver turning left at a neighborhood traffic circle should proceed counterclockwise around the traffic circle, rather than turning left in front of the circle.

We recognize that this issue causes confusion, and the City will be working this year toward clarifying the distinction between neighborhood traffic circles and roundabouts in state law, addressing the issue in the Seattle Municipal

    Code, or both.”

So I read this as yeah, you’ll probably get away with it because we usually ignore it, but it’s technically not legal to make the short left and you COULD get a ticket for it if somebody is bored and wants to write a ticket.

Karen – I think you should separate your cans and maybe put them in a bag next to your recycle can and that way this gentleman wouldn’t be going through your trash, but he’d be getting the cans. Maybe the first time you’ll have to let him know, somehow, that you have already done the separating and that you will from now on.

    beachdrivegirl..

you are very wrong that most of the people posting are pro clinton.. you have plenty of company.

And they all say some version of the same thing.. Clinton can’t get elected. people hate her.

if America has no choice but her or McCain, who do you really think they would vote for?

It’s the issues this time far more than the candidates. And the democrats come down on the popular side of three very big issues… the War… Health care… and the economy.

It is time to stop making the Presidential race a personality contest and that is exactly what that argument does.

If you feel Obama is the better candidate, tell me why… instead of bashing Clinton.

And if you need a little ammunition, i learned some reasons why Obama might be a good president from the Feb 18 Newsweek.. you can find it at the library.

I learned more from that one article than from any of the Obama campaign literature. (i have been on his mailing list from day one of his campaign.)The Obama campaign is selling the campaign… not his ability to do the job.

it’s a good thing I kept looking because i will be selling him if he wins the nomination… and i desperately want to understand why anyone would think he was really the better person for the job.

will you be selling Hillary if she wins the nomination? Because it isn’t over, you know. Neither candidate has the numbers to make it without super delegates… so she is not alone there.

it is still a horse race no matter how Obama supporters would like to paint it. It may not be tomorrow… though it looks like it still will… but it is now.

As for her ability to raise money… she passed her millionth donor and raised a good chunk of change this weekend amidst little fanfare from the press.

    Don’t count her out yet.

    got to go..

Sorry I didn’t get a chance to reply to everyone in this thread when you first replied. I appreciate the suggestions and comments.

I did start bringing the cans in and so far nobody is putting anything in it. Of course I had to get past the stubborn “I shouldn’t have to take them in” attitude <grin> but if it works, it works. I believe my husband said that the new people who moved in had a BC license plate at first, so it’s definitely possible that they had no idea of the rules. Although when I moved here from NY I didn’t know the rules either, and I asked my landlord and I called the city to find out, so it’s really not that hard. Fortunately, it seems to have stopped, but at least I have some ideas if it continues. Thanks again.

hopey, I think you brought up some good points. However, my question is, who doesn’t know how you should dress for an interview? I’m sure you dressed up a bit for your initial interview at your current job and any other job you’ve had.

I don’t understand the issue. Or, I should say, why this is an issue. Who really cares about some guy that didn’t get a job because he was dressed sloppy. He didn’t get the job and now maybe, next time, he’ll wear something else.

NewResident, just a suggestion going forward. I actually have 3 different email addresses. I’ve got the regular one I give to friends/relatives for daily stuff. Then I have the more “formal” sounding name for resumes, and things where I don’t want to be embarrassed by my email address. :) And finally I have a third one which is my “disposable” email – it’s one that I use to register at websites, ones that I’ll post publicly (like one time when I wanted to post it in a blog comment for someone to contact me) – that address I could care less how much spam it may get.

lattemom – Why are you concerned with what people wear to work? Help me see why this affects you.

People that don’t speak English. This is the land of the free and people don’t have to learn English to live here. I know that if I were to live in another country, I think the first thing I would do is learn the language, but that’s just me. I understand your frustration in that regard.

What I find frustrating is that a lot of companies outsource to India. Try rearranging a flight over the phone with someone in India. It’s impossible. Well, I guess it’s cheaper so that makes it okay. I’m glad that I work for a Company that, I believe, would NEVER do that.

Anyways, I know this post had nothing to do with dogs, but I think everyone is pretty much done with that topic. Sorry anyways.

<i>he stil dresses that way, speaks with a slang, has tattos all over and a police record he will not get very far. He has been looking for a job for over 2 years, so what did that life with a gang serve? Nothing!! He would have been better off saying no to the gang and not caring what others want or think and believe in himself.</i>

Gee. I hear this and I think of a bunch of different reasons maybe he hasn’t found a job.

    * inner-city life generally does not prepare a person for a corporate job, as far as workplace skills are concerned

    * maybe he has skills, but is having the same problem many, many other people are having in this economy of simple supply and demand

    * maybe he is striving to find a workplace that will accept him regardless of his mode of dress or the color of his skin — my current workplace sincerely does not care one whit about what we wear to work, with a dress code of “wear clothes. try to make sure they’re not too ripped up. oh, and shoes.” When you work in the tech industry and working 15 hour days during crunch time to get product out the door on time… why does it matter what you wear while cranking out code? This city was built on the tech industry. The tech industry doesn’t care about dress codes. Get used to it.

    * maybe his skillset is fairly unique and he is having trouble finding his “niche” — been there, done that, it sure does suck!

I realize that I shouldn’t really be “feeding the troll” as the saying goes, but I just cannot believe the incredible intolerance, judgemental attitude, and entitlement being displayed in this discussion.

I liked life much better without the politcal coreect crap that goes on today. More is celebrated for Quanza, and other faiths from third world countries than Christian holidays, they have all but just been banned becuase god forbid that mention GOD!! Being told to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas at our kids school was outragous, we are Christians not from Africa!! People come to the U.S. and never learn to speak English, to survive we would all have to learn to speak Spanish, or any other language. It is pure ignorance.

Wearing baggy pants wi sloppy dressing. Wearing tennis shoes in a professional office like real estate, a bank, or anyother professional office other than an office located in Harbor Island in a machine shop is sloppy, sorry but is shows you don’t care, regardless if your boss allows you to it is not professional. The whole dress code of professional dressing has been gone for years now and I rarely see a man in a suit and tie or a woman in heels and a skirt or dress downtown and that was the norm back 7 years ago when I worked, we cold not show our elbows as we had to wear a jacket with our suits or skirts/dresses.

I will never be sold that Pit Bulls are kind dogs, they are a very aggressive breed. As for the jerk who owned those pit bulls in the lastest local attack he deserves alot more than a $1,000 fine which he probably won’t pay. He will simply get another dog train it to be mean and another innocent person or animal will get bitten.

As for the Spanish people, at our daughters school there are a huge number of Spanish families and I will say they are the most friendly, down to earth and eager learners of English to better themselves and well as the kids life. I would love to live in Montana or Idaho, that way my husband coukd go derr, and elk hunting all his wanted. We would love another mount on the wall!!

3)While 58% of voters familiar with Hillary Clinton have a positive view of her, 41% give her negative marks, for a net favorability score of +17. By contrast, Obama’s net favorability score is +47.

4)Clinton’s popularity within her party does not translate as easily across party lines as Obama’s does, or indeed as Giuliani’s and McCain’s. Only 58% of the total sample of respondents had a very or somewhat favorable impression of her, compared with 82% for Giuliani (including 7 out of 10 Democratic voters), and 70% each for Obama and McCain — both of whom showed strongly among independents

5)McCain’s unwillingness to make the “anyone but Hillary” argument endangers one of the most substantial rationales he makes for his candidacy: the idea that he, alone among the Republicans, can beat Clinton in the general election. But McCain firmly believes he can accomplish that without engaging in the kind of politicking that was on display, say, between the Clinton and Barack Obama camps this past weekend.

–Three more points all from TIME magazine on why Democrats need to think about electibility.

Well getting through all 4 pages of this thread was worth the effort once I got to that which is the sanity and clarity of JoB’s words (and JanS too!). I think I literally gloss over ‘other’ people’s postings…until I see your names and then I join back in. Oh and welcome home JoB…glad your Cujo’s did so well while you were gone :)

Camp Long also has picnic shelters and that wonderful meadow and ponds close by. But I think the adult beverage thing will be a problem most places. Do you have a friend with a bigger home/yard who could help? Another thought is C&P Coffee — I think they might rent out the place for parties and I know they can have alcohol there.

I understand that most of people posting here on this blog our supporting Clinton. I just dont see how they believe as Democrats that is what is in their best interest. If Clinton wins the primary and it is a McCain/Clinton race. McCain will win. 1) Republicans will vote for Obama over McCain. They will not vote for Clinton over McCain. I know personally Republicans that are sending donations which is very unlike the. In the past they were spending $1000’s for the Republican Party.

    2) Clinton does not have the financial support and backers to win this election. She has alreadyhad to dig into her own pocket for this race.

If we as democrats want change during the next presidency we need to get past who we like more and take a look at electability.

and on a side note-the only reason why the numbers look as close as they do presently isnt b/c it is what the people want it is b/c of the superdelegates. who are slowly coming to their senses.

I still think Lattemom would be more comfortable living somewhere else, like Yakima — oh, wait, some people there speak Spanish. Let’s see, maybe somewhere in Idaho or Montana…

I’m sorry, I can’t always resist. It’s like calling “woof woof” to a pitbull on the other side of a fence just to get it riled up.

i use spam blocker in outlook… and it does work… it catches most of the spam.

but.. and here is the big problem.. you really have to sort through what it blocks for a very long time because i found too many important messages in there.

that said.. it took me less than an hour to sort through the 400+ messages that were put in my spam filter…. and another 2 hours to go through the remaining 400+ messages.. some of which were spam.

so.. it sved me half the time.

i use outlook because it is easy ken… i know it’s not the best… but on a bad brain day i can still use it:(

my hubby has had his email filtered through google gmail for some time now and loves it… so i am probably going to follow soon.

i am a very slow adopter:)

Lattemom – Thank you for the advice earlier because I think it’s working. Each time I get a new junk email, I put the address into my “blocked” section and I think I’m receiving less and less!

    ok, back to dogs…

it isn’t just one pit bull that is nice lattemom… it’s most of them.

unfortunately, there are owners like the one that owned those two pit bulls…. who have been cited more than once by animal control and who do not license their pets that give the entire breed a bad name.

A thousand dollars isn’t enough… especially since he probably won’t pay it.

if there are criminal charges to file… i hope they file them… and i hope he never gets to have another dog.

if i was his neighbor, i would report him any time i saw a dog on his premises… whether that dog was visiting or not.

as for kids with baggy pants… it’s a few of them that give the rest a bad name.

my nephew is a mid-level officer in the navy (ok.. i am lousy with titles) and when he is home on leave he is in those baggy pants… and he is so white and upper middle class…. drives a fully restored 68 mustang… and he did most of the work himself.

and to dissenting opinions.. we might get a few more reasoned dissenting opinions if the thread didn’t degenerate into a brawl on a regular basis.

BTW.. the kennel people love my little cujos and they can come back any time… and i did get licked to death both before and after i walked them.

people always say they are lucky dogs that i rescued them… but i am the lucky one:)
