  • Do you support educational equity? Are you available at least one hour each week to mentor and tutor a younger student in the community? Now is the time to become a volunteer tutor for YTP!

The Youth Tutoring Program needs dedicated volunteers like YOU to be mentors and tutors for students living in West Seattle’s low and mixed income housing community, High Point. This is a great way to deeply impact others and spread your gifts this holiday season!

YTP serves a diverse group of students, many who come from immigrant and refugee families. We match tutors and students 1:1 to foster the best mentoring and tutoring relationships. We focus on skill building so that our students can catch-up and get ahead in school.

We accept tutors all year long!

There is no tutoring experience necessary to be an impactful volunteer! Not only do we train our volunteers to be effective tutors, we provide our volunteers with the tools they need (such as individualized tutor plans and skill-building activities) to make a difference!

The minimum age for volunteering is 14, and High School students are encouraged to volunteer!

Our High Point tutoring center is located at 6400 Sylvan Way SW (Room 214)
Seattle, WA 98126. Our tutoring sessions are Monday thru Thursday at 4:20-5:20PM, 5:30-6:30PM, and 6:40-7:40PM. We are in especially high need of tutors on Tuesday/Thursday afternoons at 4:20PM!

To learn more about our program or to get started as a volunteer, please visit http://www.ccsww.org/ytp and click on “Volunteer Now.”

For questions, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at VolunteerYTP@ccsww.org or 206-328-5659.

am a former teacher who has been working as a nanny for the past 3 years. The children I care for are 3, 5 and 8. I am punctual, patient, creative and kind. The duties I am accustomed to performing include school pick up, making snacks and other meals as needed, play date supervision and light household chores. I am firm but flexible and fair. My driving record is clean, should your children require transport to any after school activities. I am interested in meeting you to discuss this arrangement in more detail. I can provide a resume and references at that time. My number is 206-550-1653. I look forward to hearing from you. I am not available on Mondays. PS: I love dogs!

We’ve become accustomed to hearing politicians, transportation policy wonks and industry interests espousing their various “transportation solutions”. Sometimes I think we’re just hearing from inside the box. I am curious what everyday people think about solutions, in or out of the box for solutions. Disclosure: I volunteered for the “failed” attempt to bring a monorail to West Seattle. I was raised in Japan where monorails are common and it was a bit hard to see people dismiss them as “toys”.

What do you think? (No laughing at any reasonable ideas :-)

I know for one thing, I don’t want this (Yesterday in LA 11/22/17):

actually, he has put the lifting of the elephant ban on hold temporarily.

I am disgusted by the oil leak, oil that will not be used in the US. This will certainly not be the last of spills, and “I told you so” will amount to a hill of beans for that damned almighty buck once again.

He must think we’re that stupid.

Orrin Hatch, the head of Finance, is a doddering old fool, and a liar to boot. We are being screwed royally, us little people, and it’s hard to fight back. There are provisions to cut healthcare hidden in this, anti-abortion provisions, and a sneaky little thing that will kick in and automatically take billions away from Medicare. And they aren’t telling us, just keeping it behind closed doors, and trying to pass it as fast as they can. It is disgusting, they are disgusting, they do not give a damn about regular Americans. They have an agenda, and it looks like they have figured out how to do it in one fell swoop. And the rich get richer.

So this idea occurred to me the other day.. What if there were a sticker that could be placed on cans where poo is accepted. Folks that don’t mind having poo left in their garbage could identify their receptacles.

Would you use it? Do they exist? I don’t know the answers, just throwing the idea out there. :)

May seem like a little thing, but it’s those little things that accumulate to drive us crazy on top of all the other daily stresses. I’m not a fan for all the reasons PatWS and anonyme stated. Also for the fact that it’s literally SH*T. It’s nasty. The wind storm knocked my bins over, the lids blew open so they filled with water. I had to dump them out and replace the garbage bags – if I would have encountered a floating bag of dog feces…gag. Maybe some people are cool with it. Bravo to them. Yes, I’m glad they picked it up off the ground so I don’t step on it but if it belongs to your dog, it belongs to you – don’t bring it into my life in any way, shape or form.

Oh no! The Danny Munoz I know and I know his customers has NEVER charged up front, that is completely false. The comments of dissatisfation on his work are also quite vague. Danny is the type that if you arent happy he will get the job done until you are. Communication is key here as Danny has been a lifetime West Seattle resident and has dozens and dozens of longterm happy customers, customers who communication with him about the work and have a mutual understanding of what is to be done. I am also witness to Danny being reliable. He always answers his phone and returns calls promptly. He works folks into his schedule as they come up and he always follows through. Im sorry for the unhappy service you feel you received, perhaps there was a misunderstanding. Danny always wants to make things right. It surprises me he wasnt given the opportunity to provide the top service he gives all his customers.

I wasn’t sure where to post this, but I wanted to share my feelings, my rage and disgust, with what’s going on in this once-great nation. How do you, my West Seattle neighbors, feel? What are you doing about all this?

    1. The House passes the tRump Tax Scam, a cruel, illogical plan that will NOT benefit the middle class, only the very rich.
Increases the deficit by almost $2 TRILLION.
Immediately cuts Medicare by $25 billion.
Sets up future trillion dollar cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security to pay for the tax cuts and fix the deficit.
Ends the medical expense deduction – hurting at least 4.5 million people with incomes less than $75,000.
Increases taxes for 47% of families with children.
    2. The massive Keystone oil leak. I hate to say “told ya so!” because this is truly a disaster that could have been prevented if the government had put people (and the environment) over pollution and profiteers.
    3. Trump lifts ban on “trophy” elephant imports. Remember his darling sons murdered endangered species in Africa? How “manly”! Well, I guess Trump likes trophies; after all, he has a trophy wife (who is getting near her sell-by date by trump’s standards and who, sadly, has the dead eyes of a blow-up doll).
Yes, I have made calls, signed petitions, and sent emails. We all have to keep up the pressure. I am proud to have Jayapal, Murray, and Cantwell represent me, but we can’t just sit back and let them do the heavy lifting.

UC-Booker seems confused on many details. It is sort of odd that someone who saw such a scene would be completely fine within a week, when it takes hardened detectives years to escape seeing scenes like that one. While everyone processes trauma differently, to be a young kid, come upon THAT horrific scene early in the morning, I would think it would take years to overcome…not a few nights.

How on earth did the “paperboy” know Ruzicka came back every 2-3 days to rape a deceased victim? I think BOOKER is confusing Ted Bundy and Jim Ruzicka. There was no evidence that any necrophilia ever took place and her body was so decomposed that it would have been impossible to tell, especially from the scene. It was never addressed in court so again, the facts are wrong.

While his detailed story on here in 2010 was 7 years ago, I would love to have a response to my two posts by this alleged “paperboy.” Maybe he did find her, but with so many incorrect responses to the facts, it does have me questioning how, why and when all of this occurred in his eyes.

Again, she was NEVER undressed at the scene. If you saw the crime scene photos, this would prove this to be true. The coroner would remove the clothes so as not to disturb vital information that untrained detectives might accidentally do. She was brought the coroner’s office as she was found, fully clothed, with the rope still around her neck. This is called “preserving evidence.”

If you removed clothing, not only do you tamper with evidence collection, you can compromise it fully. Cross contamination, fingerprints, hairs, dirt, etc. could get on the clothes. Did they decide to fully redress the victim for the autopsy?
