In reply to: Biker on Delridge…

Well perhaps a bit of a dramatic reaction by the biker, particularly the flipping off. But consider what would happen if a cyclist pulled into a car lane on any road and stopped in the middle of the road to chat on the phone so that cars couldn’t get around them without driving into another lane. If the biker weren’t run over and killed, I would bet money that someone would call the police, after honking, name calling and some various flipping.

I need to have my Kenmore vacuum cleaner repaired. It’s been quite a workhorse for years, but today it just quit. :( Is there a vacuum repair shop in or near West Seattle that anyone could recommend? I did look at previous posts, but they seem to be from several years ago. The links go to a main page for Quality Sewing and Repair, but no particular location. I gather that AAA in White Center has closed?
    Thanks.

I love biking. I do everything I can to help this city become more bike friendly. I spend time biking all over this town. I think bikers need to do more to be liked. I was on a phone call while driving home and felt I should pull over to be safe. I pulled over on delridge into a bike lane. There were no bikes around and I knew I would only be there until the conversation was over. I saw one bike come up behind me & I figured they would ride around me with no problems. I was wrong. The biker stopped & said I was in a bike lane. I said “yes I know, I’m on the phone.” The biker then said they were going to call the police. Are you fricken kidding!! A car driver on a phone call that blocked your precious bike lane and you wanted to call the police. Gimme a break! I decided to take to high road and leave the area and pull over somewhere else to finish my phone call. Yes… I pulled over in a bike lane. I also didn’t want to drive while on the phone. The biker then flipped me off when I left. Give me a break. You think you & your bike are all that matter. I thought pulling over to not drive & talk would be more important than displacing one biker for 10 seconds. I guess I was wrong.

    Todays rides are still on!!!

Additional note: If you work somewhere other than downtown I/we can help with that too!!

Personally, my daily commute is from the Admiral area to SouthPark, and others in our group also have destinations other than ‘into the city’ so if you’re wanting to learn/help to get elsewhere, just ask, we’d be happy to help.

Hoping to see some riders today!

That is typical for Century Link. If any other business were to employ such practices, it would be considered bait & switch – or outright fraud. How CL gets away with it is beyond me. I am writing to the FCC, and I encourage everyone with similar experiences to do the same.

MudBay is wonderful! I am fortunate to work closely with three of their stores (Admiral, lower Queen Anne, and Burien) in the rescue work I do. The employees/company are kind and generous. I hope your dog feels better soon.

Can anyone suggest a good websit for finding roommates? The rent for my one-bedroom is being raised higher than I can afford. I’ve been looking for another in my price range but I can’t find anything. Since I really do like where I am I thought of getting a two-bedroom with a roommate. Craigslist doesn’t seem to have much besides young folks who are looking for someone in same age bracket. I’m kinda nervous about even thinking of getting a roommate so any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My dog is sick and is having trouble eating. If he eats something he won’t eat it again. While I grabbed one of every small, smelly, expensive can on the shelf, Joan, Ava and Marilyn offered my baby every treat in the store! When I went to pay for the big stack of little cans, they would not let me. They said all they wanted was to be a part of making sure my dog ate again. This mysterious illness is costing me heavily both emotionally and financially. Mud Bay’s support is incredibly helpful. They so rock in there.

Thanks to WSB for keeping us up to date on the lead in the drinking water fiasco. I just wish SPU would do the same. How come the map is not out yet of the most likely affected neighborhoods?? Shouldn’t they at least put it out in a data format just to get it out before making it pretty in a map?! Tacoma has their map up now….

Has anyone had their water tested yet? If so, who did you use? Hard to believe that Portland offers free tests and yet in Seattle, we have to pay $20-$50 for this and there very well could be an issue! Tacoma is offering free testing, why not Seattle?

I’ve posted this several times in different neighborhood blogs etc…. You need to read this…. it’s the cities office of internet customer complaints. Read the Bill of Rights…. I filed a complaint about them restoring my out of commission DSL. They had originally said it would take 3 weeks…. I followed the rules and finally filed a complaint… My service was repaired the NEXT DAY!! Tell everyone you know. You have Rights!!

    More about Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que:
Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que Restaurants trace their roots to 1980 when Ron & Debra Wise opened Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que in Seattle, WA on 1st Avenue South. They served two essential ingredients to their customers, warm welcomes and smoked meats. Their delicious alder smoked, slow roasted beef and pork soon became legendary. Their habit-forming slow cooked sandwiches with piles of meat and an addicting sauce became wildly acclaimed. The sauce alone was a real point of distinction, separating those who stood in line by how daring they would be. “Mild” for those sanely enjoying the meat, “Medium”, which to most is adventurously hot, and “Hot” for those who don’t mind their hair on fire. Three heats, only one sauce. It became known as “The Only Sauce”. Pecos Pit humbly began in an old open-air gas station—stand in line in rain or shine or don’t bother. And line up they did. Devoted men and women in everything from hard hats to suits have come for years to get their Pecos fix. This humble beginning started a Northwest born obsession for barbeque that Seattleites have never gotten over, nor have those who visited.

    What’s Next?
So now after 36 years of having a single Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que location, Ron and Debra Wise have teamed up with Gerry Kingen to share their iconic Seattle jewel with the rest of the world, starting with West Seattle this coming spring It will open at the corner of 35th Ave SW and Fauntleroy Way SW in the former Yasuko’s Teriyaki location, across from Taco Time. The West Seattle location will feature indoor seating, and an outdoor deck as well as a handy drive through. The new Pecos locations will serve the same famous Pecos Pit BBQ found on 1st Avenue for decades, along with some new habit forming options. Offerings include our traditional pork, beef, and chicken sandwiches in a decidedly sloppy style, plus beef brisket, and hot links, with prices ranging from $7.75 to $9.50. You can add hot links; just say “spike it”, as well as bleu cheese, sharp cheddar, smoked bacon, cole slaw, pickles, extras sauce and onions. New variations include stuffed smoked potatoes (sweet or russet) for around $8, and a “Walkabouts Bowl” filled with the meat of your choice plus cheese, cold slaw and sauce. We serve healthy salads made with your choice of smoked meat, or have it veggie style, with baby kale, olives, tomatoes, cowboy caviar, cheddar cheese, and blue cheese or ranch dressing.

You can even buy bulk, smoked meats including Pecos pork, beef brisket, turkey legs, and smoked chicken ranging from $7.95 to $14.95 per pound. Word has it that the rum runners are hard at work vying for moonshine and libation offerings. Stand by for whispers on this one.

Kingen is planning on opening a number of company owned locations locally and will expand nationally to share our delicious Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que with hungry customers across the country.

It’s time to replace my Integra. Everything out there seems to be 100 miles away, a rebuilt/salvage title, from the auction or a complete scam! Are you about to trade your car in? Or are you selling your old car? I have money, I need something with low enough miles (under 140K preferred) and mechanically in good or better condition. If the car has some damage that’s ok to a certain extent.

2002-2015 car low miles 100k or for sure under 140k with few exceptions (a really good deal would be an exception) No Chrysler or Dodge Hyundai Kia or other unreliable brands.

Acura Honda Toyota Volvo Nissan or other commuter type or better car or may consider suv van or truck if its right. Please no b.s. we know a lot about cars.
