I’m in the Alaska Junction area. I have a small patch of grass (maybe 10′ x 30′) that I would like to hire someone to mow.

    Anyone interested?

The biggest problem with bike lanes is that they inevitably become multi-use trails. Alki has both a pedestrian sidewalk and a bike trail, but it never works out like that. I almost never use the bike trail, because it can be completely clogged, and getting up to 10 mph can be a challenge.

Except for the few empty trails, or when I have no other choice, I much prefer just riding on the road. For me, it just seems safer.

When I first moved to Seattle years ago, I would occasionally have reason to be walking the Burke Gilman trail in the morning, with its normal bike traffic. This was pre-ebike assist. As someone who wasn’t biking, it was several months before I eventually realized I’d heard a complete statement of “on your left” instead of a command to move left, a statement that “you should be further left”, etc. I didn’t dart in any particular direction, but even a pedestrian without headphones on might only catch the very last bit of what you’re trying to say audibly if you’re passing at 20+ mph. That was during the times where WA didn’t respect the driver’s license I had from another state and made me re-take the written (which I aced all questions on).

More safety tips. Until two years ago, all bike helmets had a speed rating of 25 kph. That is only 15 mph. Every year, I would travel to Eurobike in Freiderichshavn Germany, and meet with Abus executives to urge them to come out with an E-Bike helmet. 2 years ago, they did. 45 kph, which is about 25 mph, the rating conferred by the Dutch Government. Solid rating. Abus sent us the first dozen they shipped to the U.S. Great helmet, very comfortable and adjustable, 45 kph rating, bright rear light. Compartment with built in, pop out, rain cover.

We have been urging all of our customers to buy them. Even slow bikes go fast down hills. I have been passed by a slow bike going 40 mph down 35th Avenue SW.

They are pricey, $149.95, but a bargain compared to brain damage. AND, If you live in West Seattle, White Center, Westwood, Highland Park, or South Park, You get one FREE. Just come into Seattle E-Bike, buy a $2500 or more E-Bike, and get an Abus Pedelec Helmet.

First, if you have, or buy, a 28 mph bike (there are lots of 20 mph bikes as well) slow down when you are passing a pedestrian or slow bike. About 10 yards out, start ringing the pedestrian bell. It has a pleasant little classic bike tinkling sound. About 10 feet out, say our loud “I’m on your right” or “I’m on your left”. This prevents the pedestrian or slow bike from swerving in front of you. Works every time. If you don’t, sooner or later a pedestrian will move in front of you. Slow bikes tend to keep going straight.

I was sent to work from home from my lower Queen Anne office last month. I haven’t ridden the bus since 3/13. I live in Admiral district and have seen the buses dwindle down to now nothing. I’m wondering if anyone is still commuting to work from West Seattle to downtown (or beyond) and what it’s like. anyone taking the water taxi? How are drivers handling the changes (not to mention the bridge closure).

I understand that United Airlines provides PPE for their employees, however the transmission problem goes beyond airlines due to the virus being treated differently according to which airport you’re in. For example, the airport, TSA and airline employees all ride the same port bus from the parking lot and it can be crowded. If other employees are not wearing PPE, then they could spread the virus to those who are. Also the airport itself is enclosed, circulates old, dry air where the virus can be spread by all the other people who aren’t wearing PPE. I would look into how you could protect yourself in that situation.

I have been avoiding air travel for the past couple months for Covid-19 safety concerns. Last week I reluctantly took an unavoidable flight. I flew with Alaska Airlines, assuming they implemented adequate safety precautions. From the Alaska Airlines counter, to the gate, during the flight, and on the jet way, I directly encountered 15 Alaska Airlines employees. These employees all came well within 6 feet of me, often within a couple feet, and only one was wearing a facemask. I am concerned that this company is placing its employees at risk, and in turn putting its customers at risk. These employees come in direct contact daily with hundreds of the traveling public in an enclosed environment. Trader Joes, Starbucks, Wal-Mart, and other grocers all require their employees to wear facemasks. The CDC recommends wearing a cloth face covering whenever in public, which I do. How does an airline not require its flight attendants and other employees who come in direct contact with the public not to wear face coverings?

Unfortunately, I have some unavoidable travel in the future. I am wondering if anyone can recommend another airline which has implemented good safety precautions.

If you need furnace work in West Seattle and do not user James Heating, you are a covidiot. Our furnace went down with a broken igniter, and no one else could come except for SW. They came and said it would be $300 for the igniter and $500 for the job, but they had to order it. My wife said that she had seen a great review for James, so I called. He came in a few hours (weaving a mask) and explained the situation to me. He said it would be $50 for the igniter and $250 total. He offered to come back today, but I moved it to tomorrow. James is one of the nicest, most decent people I have met in a long time. If we want to have alternatives to ACME heating, we need to support the real people who are there for us. Please do.

Lost Keys….. Hi neighbors! Went to Me-Kwa-Mooks park on Beach Drive today and I lost/misplaced my keys. I had my 5 and 7 year old grandkids with me (as I do 3days/week since school closures) and things get hectic. Anyway…..I either lost them around the rope swings on the trail, in the grassy area, or (don’t laugh) I might have left them in my passenger front door key slot. My car is older and requires a key to open. I’m posting a picture of my spare key to help. It says Chrysler on it but I don’t believe the key that I lost did. But otherwise it’s identical. There were several other keys on it as well.

If you have found them, would you message me, please? Although it’s an older car the key still has a computer chip in it which makes it costly. Thanks, neighbors….

Who pays for this? The water taxi and WSF are subsidized with tax dollars. This would mean that every trip would have to meet a certain threshold to cover the costs of the trip.

Would this be a business that would be covering this using licensed charter Masters? Will the vessels meet the requirements for transporting passengers commercially?

Where will passengers board and disembark? There are no accessible docks for this. Are you proposing to make use of public facilities for private business?

Last week we visited our Mom thru the glass at the front of her assisted living resident and talked on our cellphones.
Now they say the residents are confined to their rooms.
At least they are getting good meals. not just bread and water.
But no video conferencing no Zoom, no google meeting.
    Nothing.
We have not received notice of this, fact is we have only received one or two emails.
They not even telling us the status of the number of infected residents. I believe it was 3 a few weeks ago. No News.
