AnonymousInactiveKayleigh, thanks for the link. Thought he nailed it too. Makes you think nothing’s going to change though, and I don’t know how both sides are going to come together.
The RFK thing is being blown out of proportion, IMO. Stupid, stupid thing to say. Bringing up assassinations in this climate when Obama has already been getting threats. Still, just a case of trying to make a point and poorly choosing her words. Kind of like Obama and the gun toting bible thumpers.
RFK JR, who supports Hillary, went on the news and said it didn’t bother him, so why should it bother us.

WSBKeymasterWho did you talk to at the city who was “not clear”? There’s nothing on the Parcel Viewer
http://www.metrokc.gov/gis/mapportal/PViewer_main.htm
(use it to look at 35th and Fauntleroy)
but private property and street space. Looks like this would be part of the street space, and that’s city of Seattle unless marked otherwise.
I know one non-government person to check with who may well know – someone with the Fairmount Community Association, which is talking about organizing a long-overdue community cleanup in that area, including the stretch down to Walking on Logs. I’ll e-mail to check — TR (WSB editor)

celeste17ParticipantI know my Mom hired a tutor for me when I was young and I think she asked the teacher for a recommendation. You might also check with the local colleges there are always starving students who need some experience teaching (I found I did better with a tutor who was closer to my own age then someone who was older). It seems to me that since they are younger they can find different ways for the child to learn. I am a visual learner rather then a read and then apply. When I was young my dad would do flash cards with me for the math and I could tell that 3+2=5 but that 2+3=5 I couldn’t tell him. He would get upset at me and tell me that it was the same number as the other just in a different arrangement. Now I know LOL! Good luck and hope your little girl will get the hang of it.

celeste17ParticipantI use to take it all the time (when I worked in Downtown). If you get down to the boat for the first 2 runs the parking is usually pretty good. The only time the parking wasn’t good was when the fishing season was open and then all the trucks and trailers where parked on the street. I would often take the 16 and what I found is that if I was the first one off the boat and really walked fast I would make the bus. The bus needs to wait for the foot traffic from the Ferry so sometimes we would be waiting a few minutes. There is also the 66 so sometimes if you miss the 16 the 66 would be an option. There is also the waterfront streetcar bus that runs but I am not sure when and where to catch that bus.

in forum Open DiscussionbcollinsMemberThe shared space at 35th and Fauntleroy Way SW (ne corner island) is over grown with grass and weeds. It’s a real mess and I want to clean it up. Who owns it? Contacted the city and they were not clear.

KayleighMemberNice one, Hillary. Is there anything she *won’t* say to justify her selfishness?
Matt Taibbi really nails the Hillary/Obama thing at a cultural level….this is the best analysis I’ve read yet.
http://www.smirkingchimp.com/thread/14446
“Pitted against physical beauty and inspirational rhetoric, Hillary made herself the champion of everything stylistically ordinary, superficially unimpressive and ignored. And while her opponent won all the attention and admiration, all the teen-idol gushings of the beautiful people, she went for something deeper — resentment at the lack of those same things. “

ShibaguyzMemberhey there dood… check out our blog. We have a lot of links on there for resources on actual local food. The best way to buy REAL local food is to go to one of the markets and purchase it directly from the people who grew it.
You’re definitely going about it the right way with the cookbook. Also, cruise through most of the websites linked on our blog and you will find all kinds of recipes using local, seasonal foods.
Personally, we’ve been keeping to a pretty strict local food diet for a year now and it’s really not all that hard with a little advance planning. You just have to know what is coming into season and be ready to cook with whatever you can find at the markets (thus the cookbooks).
I’m all with ya on the cheap and hungry! LOL Good luck on your local food quest… we’ve had a great time with ours!

ShibaguyzMemberWe’ve been trying to put together a time when everyone can get together. I know our schedule is crazy over the next few weeks but I’m sure we could find some time to socialize and have coffee or wine with a bunch of WS Gardeners. :)
Everyone just needs to weigh in with their preferences for meeting times. Sundays are usually really bad for us because that is our market day so we’re up in Ballard most of the morning then putting stuff away, freezing, canning, etc. That’s our only restriction.

WSBKeymasterUpdate, just added a little bit to the home-page post. Two separate e-mails have indicated police told residents they were looking for a suspect in an assault. No info on circumstances and I don’t have afterhours contacts to try to find out more (a longrunning project to try to fix that), but that’s at least a little bit of info — will continue to monitor as we’ll be up well past midnight — TR

ShibaguyzMemberIf you want to take the back way around to Downtown, we take Roxbury to the 1st Ave Bridge. From there we either take Michigan street to 4th or 6th into downtown. OR… go over the 1st Ave Bridge and actually take 1st into downtown.
During heavy WS Bridge times, these have saved us a LITTLE time off the drive… but hey… traffic is traffic and people are NOT going to stop moving to West Seattle. That’s why we’ve been playing with different routes.

May 23, 2008 at 11:25 pm #625047In reply to: questions about water taxi
barmargiaMembersaney, parking is a huge challenge down there. The couple times I did drive down, I would get home at the end of the day unable to move my car because people parked so close to me that I would surely hit them if I tried to get out of the spot. The free shuttle is a great option if it’s not too far from where you start. I only had to walk a few blocks to the corner of admiral and california. One big complaint with the water taxi is that it doesn’t necessarily take the “only 12 minutes” that the website mentions. Not a big deal if you don’t have far to go after you get to the other side, but I had to get down to the far south end of pioneer square so it was a little frustrating, also if there is a lot of freighter traffic the little water taxi has to go around and yield for them. It’s a relaxing ride if you aren’t worried about making a specific time. I have to be to work at 6 a.m. so it really doesn’t work for me at all.

CMPParticipantLOL…my Mom quit Curves when she found out about the owner’s anti-abortion stance. Melsbees, you should be able to get a two week membership for free to All Star to check it out. Not sure about trial periods for the YMCA, but I’m quite sure that 24 Fitness offers something as well. Check them out and see which one you like best. Southwest Pool has water aerobics, but they’re closing down for the summer, unfortunately. You could go to Colman Pool too and get a nice walk in to boot. Good luck in finding something that works for you!

May 23, 2008 at 9:52 pm #625039In reply to: Resume sending via Email online
charlabobParticipantFirst, do whatever the job posting or the ad or the person who referred you says. If they want the resume faxed, fax it. If they want it in word or pdf or whatever — do it.
Don’t forget the cover letter — among other things, it gets someone to read your resume. :-)
If you go through an agency, make sure the agency gives you a copy of what they’re sending out. They frequently transfer information into their own format and sometimes things get lost (or enhanced) in translation. One agency so exaggerated my qualifications that I didn’t recognize me. And (believe it or not) I’m not falsely humble — I’m just not a VP of engineering type. :-)
Have someone else read your resume too — no amount of proofreading is better than alternative viewpoints.
Don’t look down on anyone. Really — I don’t mean, don’t ACT superior — don’t FEEL superior. The receptionist and the person passing through the waiting area has friends and colleagues and will be asked (if the hiring folks are smart.)
Some things vary with the industry — sending physical “thank you” letters still works in accounting, banking, etc. Some oh-so-superior tech companies will just laugh at you, and prefer email. Know the conventions for your business.
