KenParticipantHas part of WA been moved to CA? The current flyer is right in front of me and it says Washington grown 6 for $2.00
I know a few corn farmers on both sides of the cascades and they have barely got their stands started and most lost a lot of time due to wet weather. They worry that they won’t have any to harvest by July forth on the east side and later here on the west.
The corn is fresh and a super sweet variety but I was wondering if anyone noticed.

KenParticipantAs far as I know, Corn cannot keep in Controlled Atmosphere storage like apples, especially not sweet corn.
I suspect it was some clueless ad layout person doing a cut n paste from last august.

inactiveMemberI just came back from the Westwood QFC. They had a “Local Blackberries” sign in front of their fruit. Upon closer examination of the basket, local = Driscoll’s, out of Watsonville, CA.
Wow, “local” is pretty darn relative, I suppose, if one compares transportation distances to So. America or Mexico. But still…..
This whole “grow/eat local” zeitgeist thing is interesting to me.
I just pulled out a cookbook I bought many moons ago (at least 15 yrs. ago) from Powells. I needed to learn how to cook cheaply and discovered “seasonal cooking”.
The book, “Feasts for All Seasons” by Roy Andries de Groot was printed in 1966. Not really a new concept for some of the foodies out there. Not that I am much of a “foodie”. I’m just cheap and hungry. ;)

ShibaguyzMemberhey there dood… check out our blog. We have a lot of links on there for resources on actual local food. The best way to buy REAL local food is to go to one of the markets and purchase it directly from the people who grew it.
You’re definitely going about it the right way with the cookbook. Also, cruise through most of the websites linked on our blog and you will find all kinds of recipes using local, seasonal foods.
Personally, we’ve been keeping to a pretty strict local food diet for a year now and it’s really not all that hard with a little advance planning. You just have to know what is coming into season and be ready to cook with whatever you can find at the markets (thus the cookbooks).
I’m all with ya on the cheap and hungry! LOL Good luck on your local food quest… we’ve had a great time with ours!

JeannieParticipantI’m all for eating locally – I used to buy blueberries that came all the way from Chile, for instance, but no more. But, Shibaguyz, are those cute Shiba Inu doggies eating locally, too? P.S. If anyone has never seen a Shiba Inu, do a Google search – they are gorgeous!

ShibaguyzMemberJeannie – the raw food we mix in with their kibble is from Skagit River Ranch, the same place we get our local meat from. So they are only eating about 50% local. ;)
