Any recommendations for good competition-level show choir options in Seattle for our high school freshman daughter? My family is moving back to the WS area after a few years in the midwest, and as far as I can tell it seems that most of the high schools here don’t have school-sponsored show choir (just “regular” vocal choir, musicals, drama and band…all of which are awesome, but she’s really enjoyed competitive show choir in junior high and would like to find a group/club that does that). Thanks!

    Hello Suzann:

Congratulations on your new baby! What a time!

I’ve nannied two infants and worked in the infant area of Tara’s Tots, a Waldorf-inspired preschool. I am experienced and keep this experience up by teaching swimming two afternoons a week to a collection of 44 kids – 3 at a time. I am also the mother of a teen I adore. I feel my entire mothering experience and professional nanny and teacher experience can be summed up by saying, very simply, this: I am learning to deeply listen to the needs of children, and I strive to help them open their voices in my presence and to connect to the natural world and the joy of play. I feel I am skilled at keeping things light and happy. I am happy to speak with you and hope you will be in touch. I live off Alki Beach and consider nannying a place of greatest growth.

    All the best,

    Lesley (of Alki Beach)

on board, another option to get back from Costco (I use it often):
    -Left on 4th Ave S
    -Right on S Dawson St
-Right on E Marginal Way S
-Take the W Seattle/Harbor Island exit (get in the left lane)
-Cross under 99, take the curvy overpass (it’s still part of E Marginal Way S)
-Left on S Spokane St, and that’ll take you to the lower bridge

I agree Franci, this is much better but it caught me offguard at first as well. That Horton/1st intersection kind of a mess for those trying to turn S from either direction.

On board, if you used Horton previously to get back to WS from Costco, you can just use Occidental, it’s only a 1 block detour. The rest of Horton is still open westbound from 4th Ave S.

I’ve been a longtime member of West Seattle Health Club and I’ve also gone to Anytime Fitness and the Y. I love West Seattle Health Club since the ownership transition a few years ago. It is clean, reasonably priced, has a great pool/sauna/steam/hot tub, the staff is very friendly, and they are constantly making improvements. They just started serving beer and wine in addition to their snack bar. I never have to wait for cardio equipment. Love it!

I went to West Seattle Optics for YEARS, but when I tried to book an appointment last year, I was told that they were booked solid for the following six weeks!!! After doing lots of research, I decided to go into town to Urban Optix in SLU. Although I liked Dr. Gormley well enough, after meeting Dr. Lee at Urban Optics, I have come to the opinion that she is a better doctor. Despite having a growing issue with dry eyes and despite having raised that issue with Dr. Gormley, it wasn’t until I met Dr. Lee that I learned the cause (my rosacea!!!) and she gave me much better and more complete information and options than Dr. Gormley ever did. This year, I’m dealing with emerging presbyopia, and she took the time to really explain my options. She is personable and competent and stays current on developments in her field. Her staff is also stellar. I’ve found fairly easy street parking each time I’ve been, so for me, I will travel out of the neighborhood for this vital service.

Years ago (back in the 90s) I had a membership with LA Fitness. I moved to an entirely different city, and the closest gym was 15 miles away from my house. I followed the cancellation instructions to the letter, but they didn’t want to release me from my contract. Their harassed me looking for “their money.” I can’t say if they still pull this sort of crap, but it left such a bad taste in my mouth that I will *never* give them another chance.

Hi all, I stupidly left Caffe Ladro with my backpack unzipped, stopped near the Good Dog side steps to tie my shoes and lost my black wallet as I walked to pick up my kid from Gatewood. I don’t care about my license or credit cards, etc, but I had locks of my dead husband’s hair in the wallet and I am desperate to get them back. His hair was beautiful. If you have a wallet for Noella Natalino please let me know. No questions asked. Please.

I was looking for info on this closure back in the summer as that is my route home some nights. I don’t know for sure but my husband, who works with WDOT and SDOT, says that they closed it at the same time as the Lander to keep west bound traffic from backing up to 4th Ave S and that it will be closed until Lander is complete.

This closure affects anyone trying to access the 1st avenue on ramps to West Seattle when they are coming back from Costco. They closed the ability to drive westbound on Horton from Occidental back last summer with no explanation or information. Combine this with the closure of Lander, it has become ridiculously difficult to return to West Seattle after a trip to Costco. SDOT has provided no information on this closure regarding why it is being done, nor when it will be reopened. By all appearances, there is not a discernible reason for this closure. It would be awesome if WSB could get to the bottom of this unreasonable closure. Thanks.
