quinkygirlParticipantFirst of all, let me say that I’m never, ever going to join LA Fitness. I hate that company with a fiery passion! I’ve been a member of 24 Hour Fitness for years, but I’m interested in stepping up to a better gym. I’ve noticed several new gyms springing up in our hood recently, so I thought I’d ask — what is the best WS Gym, and why? Group exercise classes aren’t really important to me at this point, but a good variety of cardio and weight equipment is. So, West Seattle — where do you sweat?

DaveBParticipantI was a member of the YMCA in the triangle (I quit about 18 months ago because I wasn’t going). Their recent remodel brought in a lot of new equipment, and the space is nice. I recently started going to West Seattle Health Club, and they have a similar set up, and a women only gym too. (and a snack/coffee bar). I don’t know if either is the best, but they both seem to have what you need.
Out of curiosity, why do you not like LA Fitness? I’ve never been so I have no perspective.

VanessaParticipantI am very pleased with the West Seattle Health Club.
LA fitness has a real parking lot (non)security issue.
Was a long time member of the Y many years ago but rates kept going up and it was hard to get away from screaming children. (I love kids. No comments necessary.)January 15, 2019 at 12:50 pm #938317
GreystreetParticipantI’ve been a member of West Seattle Health Club (through it’s tortuous moments), the YMCA AND LA Fitness.
I have to say that LA Fitness is the best for the price you pay, and there are locations nationwide, and since West Seattle is a signature club, when you sign up there you can go anywhere.
It’s been a few years since I was at the West Seattle Health Club, but I always liked it but wanted portability.
The YMCA Is just downright pricy and there are a TON of children, understandably because it’s a YMCA but it can get crowded quickly and it’s not a very large space.January 29, 2019 at 8:45 am #939605
quinkygirlParticipantYears ago (back in the 90s) I had a membership with LA Fitness. I moved to an entirely different city, and the closest gym was 15 miles away from my house. I followed the cancellation instructions to the letter, but they didn’t want to release me from my contract. Their harassed me looking for “their money.” I can’t say if they still pull this sort of crap, but it left such a bad taste in my mouth that I will *never* give them another chance.

newnativeParticipantMy boyfriend goes to Anytime Fitness and because he lives in Texas part-time, he actually pays for his membership down there and it’s cheaper for him. The Admiral District location is good enough for him when he is here. I actually belong to Soul Fitness in lower Queen Anne because it’s cheap and next to my work.

blblParticipantI’ve been a longtime member of West Seattle Health Club and I’ve also gone to Anytime Fitness and the Y. I love West Seattle Health Club since the ownership transition a few years ago. It is clean, reasonably priced, has a great pool/sauna/steam/hot tub, the staff is very friendly, and they are constantly making improvements. They just started serving beer and wine in addition to their snack bar. I never have to wait for cardio equipment. Love it!

birdrescuerParticipantWest Seattle Health Club also has fabulous classes. I go to 2 on T/Th with Denise and would be lost without them/her. I totally agree with bibi.

PangolinPieParticipantCan anyone tell me if the WS health club’s jacuzzi is open yet? Thanks.

birdrescuerParticipantI think it is. Pool is open for sure.

blblParticipantNo, last I heard they were waiting for a permit. Not sure if that’s true, but it is still walled off.
