Actually, what the last 4 years have shown is that you can’t compromise with crazy people. The Repubs had one goal only, to prevent Obama’s re-election. To that end, they did nothing but obstruct and delay, hoping the blame would fall on the Dems. They failed.
So there is now some hope of compromise because the political winds have shifted. Polls show that if the Repubs try to play the debt ceiling game or drive us over the fiscal speed bump, it’s them that’ll be getting the blame. In 2014, stuff like that will matter because in that election, if we’re still fighting about this kind of baloney, the Pubs could lose the House too.

Why have we heard zilch in the media about a proposal put forth last year by a bunch of our elected leaders in the Progressive caucus that would solve a lot of these problems without taking it out of seniors, children, and sick people’s hides? The People’s Budget. Here’s Krugman talking about it…
