Another sign sighting: Spring Hill in The Junction

springhill.jpg

Thanks to Bill for e-mailing us with news this sign had gone up in the window at the future Spring Hill restaurant (the sign says “restaurant & bar”) next to Seattle Fish Company on the north edge of The Junction; we subsequently snagged this photo while Christmas shopping (very busy in The Junction, watch out for crazy drivers like the 3 who almost ran us down). We have been following the progress of Spring Hill for more than a year now, since first word of its impending arrival came in the form of a liquor-license application; most recently, we noted a building permit last month, five months after the architects’ sign went up in the corner of the window.

At the Seattle Fish Company last year, there was a sign that said “fresh scallops” but the spot only had a few scraps left, so I asked if he had any more in back. He said “yes, but it’s still frozen” so I haven’t refilled the spot yet. I said “Oh, but it says fresh on the sign.” He said “Oh, we can’t get fresh scallops this time of year.” Makes me think they sell frozen food as “fresh.” Buyer beware!

I haven’t been to the Seattle Fish Company but have heard good things about them. (was this even the subject???)

Looking forward to Spring Hill opening. Hopefully they have parking. (off subject from me too…went to Curious Kidstuff yesterday and there is NO PARKING. Had to walk a block in the pouring down rain. I may just stay away from the Junction for awhile.)

Wow, you had to walk an entire block?? My goodness, how did you ever survive? Really, now, walking a block is not horrible, even in the rain. I can’t believe you think that is even worth mentioning.

Yeah, I’ve heard good things about Seattle Fish Company too…that’s why I was surprised to see them passing off frozen as fresh. Anyway, it was just an experience I thought I’d pass along. Hopefully it was an aberration.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let Spring Hill NOT be ‘another bar that serves food’.

Well Sarah, I’m surprised you even find it worth posting your comments.

LOVE Seattle Fish Co! Loved it more when Bill was working there. When it 1st opened the mongers seemed to know A TON more about fish.

It is GREAT how much confidence businesses have in WS. It seemed like yesterday poeple were posting about how the viaduct issue meant the death of west seattle. Welcome SpringHill!

Bonnie, Sarah, do I have to pull this car over? Do I have to separate you two? That does it young ladies! No sleepovers for a month for you Bonnie. Sarah, you need to feed the cats every day for two weeks. That’s it. . . . .not another word. . . . . Spring Hill sounds fresh. Does anyone know if Shadowlands has overcome their growing pains?

hey, different BB…great comment re: the two girls…hehehehehe…

BB too funny… I have no problem walking, just not when I have a bunch of packages and walking in the pouring down rain. What’s with all these condos using up all the parking and taking up all the parking?

Anyway, looking forward to checking out Spring Hill.

No relation to Mars Hill, I assume? ;)

By the way, check with anyone about this, most “fresh” seafood is frozen as it is caught on the boat. There are some exceptions, but scallops are mostly block frozen as they are harvested. This is the best way, as scallops go bad really fast.
I work in the seafood industry, and I just wanted to stand up for Seattle Fish Company because I think they do a fine job.

I think walking while carrying things in the rain is why umbrellas and shopping bags are just so darn popular.

  • jc May 4, 2008 (5:32 pm)

you are correct rich, almost all “fresh” seafood is heavily packed in ice as it enters the boat from the ocean-thus freezing. Seafood begins to spoil and stink almost immediately after it dies and I can’t imagine any of you posh west seattle folks finding that acceptable. So lay off Seattle fish co. they are a good company!!

Curious Kidstuff has a couple of dedicated parking spots in the alley behind the store…FYI.

Sorry, comment time is over.
