Date set for Admiral Safeway’s return to Design Review

Per the city website – Admiral Safeway‘s next date with the Southwest Design Review Board, which could be its last if the project design wins the board’s final approval, is tentatively set for December 17th, 8 pm, Youngstown Arts Center. (One of the additions since its October SWDRB review, another store entrance on California SW, was previewed at the Design Commission a week and a half ago.) ADDED 8:46 PM: Almost forgot to mention, there’s a 6:30 pm review same night/same place – 2988 SW Avalon, the 16-unit Transitional Resources building last reviewed in April.

Good to learn that meeting details are still tentative. Considering there could be winter ice or snow on the hills and roads, I think it’s vital to convene the public meeting in the affected neighborhood and not force night travel to Youngstown Arts Center.

Very interesting. I can’t wait to see the real deal in a couple of years! (But I’ll have to anyhow.) Thanks for reporting on this!

Alvis, you may recall, in fact, that the mid-December SWDRB meeting last year had to be canceled because it was set for Dec. 18, which turned out to be the HEIGHT of Snowpocalypse

    .
At that time, it was The Kenney and a Junction project, scheduled for review at Madison MS – when the postponed meeting was held in January, it was at WS Christian Church. FWIW, I need to add to this blurb the fact that another project is scheduled for review the same night, 2988 SW Avalon, which is relatively close to Youngstown … TR

It looks better than what’s there now, but all of this cookie-cutter strip-mall architecture is really starting to make West Seattle look like Redmond. It’s bumming me out.

Sorry, comment time is over.
