UPDATE: 2 hurt in crash at Admiral Way curve

12:53 PM: Police are on the scene of what they told dispatch is a multiple-vehicle collision at 36th SW and SW Olga [map], at the curve near Admiral Way Viewpoint. At least one person will be checked out for injuries. Avoid the area for a while.

1:04 PM: The crash is reported to be blocking one westbound lane on Admiral.

2:21 PM: Thanks to commenter “Neighbor” for posting the photo we’ve added above. Meantime, SPD says the scene is clear. We’re checking with SFD on the possibly injured person.

3:16 PM: Here’s what we heard back from SFD spokesperson Grace Nuñez:

There were two patients:

A 44-year-old female treated for minor injuries and did not require transportation to a hospital.
A 44-year-old male treated for minor injuries and did not require transportation to a hospital.

Between the excess speeds and poorly functioning walk signal it’s only a matter of time before something bad happens there. I have sent Rob Saka and others multiple emails regarding the issue there, all are ignored

Absolutely agree. If anyone knows of another avenue to request a change at this curve, I’m all ears!

  • Neighbor November 26, 2025 (1:24 pm)

We live at this intersection and there are so many accidents along this curve. Some sort of change needs to happen.

Sounds like to me Seattle government needs to do like they did in past years and that is have SPD assign a police officer on that section of roadway and start writing tickets again. Worked well from 1970’s to around 2010 ish, when they basically stopped. Most all that lived in area all knew Admiral Way (both sides of hill) and 35th had motorcycle cops hiding along them 3-4 days a week. Worked great….. if you were speeding or driving stupid you’d get pulled over asked for driver’s license, proof of insurance and they would even check your tabs… If you didn’t have, you got a ticket….worked well … Then things changed as many of those pulled over said they were being harassed and here we are today. Start enforcing the laws Seattle, instead of making up new ones….

They do, and in fact there was an officer out there making traffic stops earlier in the afternoon. For what, the log doesn’t show, but some other database likely does. These five stops are cut-and-pasted directly from the data map (“onview” means it was an alleged violation seen by the officer):

I’ve seen them out enforcing multiple times over the last few weeks. Sometimes accidents happen. People need to accept that reality at some point.

I went around that corner at about 12:30 (not going fast) and my truck slid a bit.  I wonder if there was something on the road.

    • Hammer in Hand November 26, 2025 (6:03 pm)

Don’t start that….why do we always have to put a bubble around people. For the lack of driving skills

  • Seattlite November 26, 2025 (6:16 pm)

Common sense rules when driving especially on rain-slicked roadways.  I drive between 25 and 30mph on SW Admiral Way.   Drivers pass me on Admiral Way SW going between approximately 40 to 60 mph.  Dangerous speeders are careless and reckless and obviously don’t care if they hurt themselves or someone else.

    • Beet November 27, 2025 (8:29 am)

Sounds like an argument for narrowing the road, installing bumps, and making other infrastructure improvements to compell drivers to slow down. Driver’s who don’t care about killing pedestrians seem quite unwilling to risk scraping their paint job on some bollards.

      • Admiral Dad November 27, 2025 (10:11 am)

What pedestrian are you talking about here?  This was two cars, probably one of which was not paying enough attention to the act of driving if not both, who collided around a curve.

      • Little One November 28, 2025 (1:25 pm)

Not saying I’m against deterrents…but I would much rather have speed enforcement than intentionally bad road engineering.

  • michael@michaelstusser.com November 26, 2025 (7:32 pm)

I’m on that curve several times a week and it’s always sketchy, especially heading down Admiral. The oncoming car lights are blinding just before the stop light, and it’s hard to stay in your lane. Something should be rearranged on this curve.

  • Kathy November 26, 2025 (8:13 pm)

If only we had a bike crossing from SW Manning Street to the uphill bike lane on Admiral Way. Put in some warning signs, speed bumps and a push button flashing light. That might help calm car traffic. That bike lane is under used because it’s so hard to get to. You have to drag your bike up 2 flights of stairs or ride up the very steep, windy slippery City View Street. Then of course the bike lane just peters out at the viewpoint.

  • WestSeattleDerm November 26, 2025 (10:03 pm)

Admiral way is unfortunately out of control.  Virtually no one cares its a 25 MPH speed limit.  Which I think was set for a good reason, like not hitting cars trying to turn into residential streets? This will only continue unless SPD starts enforcing the speed limit.

  • B November 27, 2025 (12:21 am)

General question about SDOT stance on street hash lines. In rain and dark, street hashes/lines are basically invisible. Including double yellows. Have we never considered reflector hash lines of some kind in West Seattle?

  • Marcus November 27, 2025 (5:56 am)

That curve has indeed always had problems…but only for people who drive over the speed limit. I know it is very difficult to maintain 25mph on that long stretch but that curve is indeed brutal. That crosswalk light is in a very hazardous location just by simple road design. More signage and maybe a few brail bumps before the curve would help. The real issue is not that SPD does not patrol enough, however what a revenue producer. Also not the SDOT. It is the stupid, ignorant, impulsive, “get out of my way”, distracted drivers that I see each and every day. They tailgate, race up and down Admiral Way and then cut in at the last moment like privileged children playing video games. And then when an accident occurs everyone starts to blame the city, police and the wet road—everyone but themselves. All accidents are preventable with the exception of mechanical failure or medical emergencies.

    • bill November 27, 2025 (10:39 am)

Indeed. Most “accidents” are not accidental. They are “deliberates.” The foreseeable consequence of deciding to speed, drive recklessly, drink or do drugg, read texts, make phone calls, fail to account for conditions, etc.

  • Sam November 27, 2025 (10:13 am)

Many drivers ignore the speed limit on Admiral. I stick to it and constantly get passed. There is a speed limit for safety reasons. Please slow down!

  • Admiral2009 November 27, 2025 (12:40 pm)

Sam – the 25 MPH speed limit on Admiral Way a Principal Arterial is not technically credible or reasonable.  Increasing the limit back to 30 mph would be appropriate and improve safety!

    • bill November 27, 2025 (8:44 pm)

Are you contending the 25 mph speed limit incites drivers to do 60? I haven’t encountered anyone doing 25 in years. I set my cruise control at 33 and every driver behind loses their mind trying to pass.

      • Al King November 28, 2025 (6:33 am)

Theres NO safe reason to use cruise control in the city. And um…saying you’re going over the speed limit but pointing out other drivers doing the same as you????

  • Alkistu November 29, 2025 (9:12 am)

You can enforce and educate all you want and there will still be drivers going well over the speed limit, you know the ones you pull up beside at the Admiral Junction after driving 25 the whole distance. This roadway needs to be re-imagined and create convenience for humans instead of cars. That bike lane gets a lot of use even though it’s hard to get to. The Bus frequency is one of the worst in the city for a connecting arterial and the Busses get stuck in traffic at the bottom of the hill. Less cars would help.
