WEST SEATTLE WILDLIFE: Bunny battle?

The video is from WSB contributing photojournalist Dave Gershgorn, who has had more than his share of wildlife encounters lately – a coyote closeup on Saturday, these bunnies today. He thinks they were having a turf war; that seems more likely than a get-acquainted session. Here’s a photo from their wrestling match:

It’s mating season.  This is more dominance behavior than just fighting about territory.

Wow – talk a fight where the fur is flying!  Who knew they could have conflicts like that?

Too many of them. I hope a coyote makes a dinner out of those guys.

Maybe you should be investigated for animal cruelty.

Good lord WestSeattleBadTake, it’s natural selection. Maybe you should be investigated for not having a clue.

I doubt BETO has trained coyotes to turn loose on the bunnies.

… I mean, I love these furry little guys, but they definitely get destructive when populations are left unchecked. They are prey for coyotes. Nothing cruel about that.

You clearly don’t have a garden. The life cycle is not cruelty.

Too many for what? Poor human thinks there are too many rabbits.

I mean there is such a thing as “too much” given the limited resources for them, that’s natural. Wishing death on them on the other hand…perhaps not so natural.

Thanks for sharing the wrestling bunny video and the link to the fact sheet. So interesting how they nest above ground for their young.

I wonder how they’d live here without us.   Very tasty lunch for all who came before us? Darling bunnies any way..

Same thing (a battle/dance) is going on with squirrels on my fence. Talk about balance!!

I know that rabbits also play….in a rowdy way. They run at each other, “box” then seperate and do it again.

The fact sheet is super interesting. I learned a lot about our resident rabbits!

There should have been music. That battle was legendary.
