FOLLOWUP: West Seattle’s new driver-licensing office now open

(WSB photo, February)

We just double-checked, and yes, West Seattle’s new driver-licensing office is now open as scheduled at Delridge/Dakota, on the back side of the building. The state announced the new location February 1 and opened it today after a week-long closure for moving out of the old location east of Westwood Village (whose owner plans a redevelopment project). Here’s where to make an appointment.

Woohoo! I love how close it is to me!

Maybe a dumb question, but asking in case anyone already knows.  What are those parking spots for- do they actually offer the driver skills test there?   When trying to schedule an appointment for a driver skills test, the closest locations  offering appointments are Lynnwood or Morton.

I would call them,  but looks like those are the ones you have to go to.

Not a dumb question at all. We had to book through a driving school because they said they don’t do the written or driving tests so I too am curious if this new facility will offer testing again.

Gotta say I’m not sure what the point of testing is anymore.

      Why is that Bill ?

Do we know if they will be testing new drivers down 26th?  So much for the Greenway. I live right next to it and am waiting till someone smashes into my car parked on the street

No, they do not do driver testing here. The website shows they do not it.

They tested on the residential streets adjacent to the WWV location and there weren’t a ton of cars getting smashed there.  Not a big deal if they do start drive testing here.

Smooth appointment there this morning, everyone was so kind! Agent told us that testing at this location is for required testing (like for medical reasons or due to violations), not skills tests for new drivers.

Had an appointment there today. The office is set up nicely and everyone was great. But the parking is pretty odd. Or maybe just not obvious, because I didn’t notice a better way? The front spots are all either reserved for testing, reserved for electric cars, or handicapped spots. So I parked in the lot on the side, it seems there should be stairs/ramp to access the entrance of the office from the side lot, but I didn’t see one. So people were either walking around the lot or cutting through the shrubs. Maybe theres a way to access the office from the Delridge facing side, which had great parking on that side, but I was running late for an appointment and didn’t attempt it. Here’s the way I parked today and walked around for reference. There’s a little bit of a slope on the way down to the office entrance/back up to the lot.

Sorry, comment time is over.
