In case you’re wondering: Helicopter’s just checking out ferry traffic

3:59 PM: Just in case you’ve forgotten, it’s holiday-weekend-getaway time, and that’s why the shared TV-news helicopter is circling Fauntleroy right now – taking a look at ferry traffic. It’s nothing unusual, per the most-recent update from Washington State Ferries – the #2 boat is running about half an hour behind schedule.

4:15 PM: It’s moved on, for now.

I wonder how much Carbon that creates to show us an overhead view of traffic?

The SDoT has a traffic cam down there, Fauntleroy and Cloverdale looking north. Having the helicopter circle about looking for traffic does seem wasteful.

The Fauntleroy ferry routes have had a rough summer.  It is best to accept that the vessels will be late or cancelled due to crew or mechanical.  Hoping for few line cutters and patience for the rest.

It’s not just crew shortages it has a lot to do with Washington State not properly funding the ferries as well as wsf having bad hiring practices and policies for new employees. It also doesn’t help when the people on the Fauntleroy Vashon southworth route are incompetent with getting things loaded/unloaded of vast majority of the time

We heard a helicopter around the time you posted this and looked up and thought it was the Coast Guard, looked orange and white…but maybe not.

There was another helicopter passing by at the start of the TV helicopter’s circles. Just passing through. Its call sign started with A, I didn’t bother looking it up because it was just flying past. The TV chopper (N7QD) circled for 15+ minutes and is currently doing the same thing over the Edmonds ferry dock. (5:21 PM: And they’ve since headed back south, probably bound for the Tacoma brush fire.)

Sorry, comment time is over.
