WEST SEATTLE WEATHER: Heat-wave alert

We’ve been hearing for days that hot weather, likely in the 90s, will return next week. Now the National Weather Service has issued an alert about it. Here’s the Special Weather Statement saying 90+-degree temperatures are “likely” Tuesday through Friday, and that could raise the risk of heat-related illness for people and pets.

Gosh, Ihave lived in Seattle all of my 74 years and remember many summers with a week or so 90 degree weather.  Everyone used common sense…drink water, relax in the shade. keep pets hydrated, run through the lawn sprinkler if you can afford it.

Two things I have always found amusing about what people say about Seattle.1. It rains all the time.2. You don’t really need air conditioning.

That’s funny, I think it’s weird when people complain about the rain (or clouds). We don’t have an air conditioner. I didn’t have one in Tucson either. Some like it hot.

Those are still a thing. Saw one in a yard while we were out walking this week. And they’ve been around so long, I remember playing on one when I was four years old and a brush fire was burning on the hill over our house in San Diego’s then-pastoral Mission Valley. (Odd memory …) – TR

Ha, ha yes an odd memory! The word heat wave always makes me think of the song attached to the previous comment, but here’s a Slip and Slide vid! https://youtu.be/JvGH8n0_-pw

Please put out water for wildlife

Definitely!  I always keep several bowls in the yard in addition to a birdbath.  The water draws a lot of customers, including possums and raccoons overnight.  I also make slushies for my cat – cat food blended with water, frozen, and served either solid or blended.  He loves them.  And don’t forget plants!  Most plants in pots need watering every day in hot weather.

Sorry, comment time is over.
