UPDATE: Early-morning fire in Fauntleroy ‘intentionally set’

4:05 AM: Midsize fire response this past hour to Fauntleroy/Henderson, near the ferry terminal. We just caught up with the crews still on scene and they told us it was a carport fire, handled fairly quickly, no injuries.

11:08 AM: Though no investigator had been dispatched at the time of the fire, we noticed on the log that one was sent a few hours later. SFD says their investigation determined the fire was “intentionally set,” with damage totaling about $1,000.

This was reported as arson on Facebook by the homeowner and there’s video of the perp starting the fire.

Pics of the perp? We had a couple small fires set by a local homeless person that the police are aware of.

I am the home owner, our security camera captured the man who set the fire walking up (north) to our house from the ferry dock. He spent 2+ minutes outside of our walled-in carport, sets the fire and then continues walking north towards Lincoln Park. At the time of fire dept being here we had no idea what had happened and were just dealing with the shock of having our house being close to burning down – and much much more damage than $1k caused! No one knew what happened until we started to look through our security camera footage. This person was undoubtedly captured by the many WSDOT cameras around the ferry dock and the bus stop where he also was rummaging around. I can try to upload our video later but it will not be clear or light enough to ID this person. I have already during the day heard from SEVERAL neighbors around this area about several small fires and things such as yard signs and garbage bins being burned down in the last month. There are one or more individuals committing these crimes. I am passing on all the information I learn to the investigators. Thank you everyone for caring, so glad to be a part of this wonderful community! And blessed that my family is alive. Be safe!

Thank you for the update. The WSDOT/SDOT cameras don’t record so they won’t help, but if anything is remotely recognizable in your video, even say the person’s shoes, it could help connect cases. You can try emailing or texting (westseattleblog@gmail.com, 206-293-6302) the video to us and we can upload it to a format that will play back here. – TR
