CRIME WATCH: Stolen pickup truck with canopy (update: found)

Jim‘s truck was stolen early today just south of the city-limit line:

10:37 AM: Someone drove off in my truck this morning at 4:30 AM in North Shorewood near the Safeway. 2006 F250 Crew Cab Super Duty, Brown with Gold Trim. Custom wheels and tires. Large Ham radio antenna hanging off the hood on the left front. Paint matched Snug Top canopy with blacked-out windows.

Call 911 if you see it.

5:44 PM: Jim reports in a comment that it’s been found.

Lock everything down. Prowlers everywhere. Hope you get it back.

Found It! It was in South Park. Ham radios gone, stereo gone  from the dash  (didn’t like it anyways). damaged ignition, door lock, and busted trim from trying to open the canopy. Everything rummaged through. Very picky, they left my bag of Canadian quarters I had in the glove box. I was contacted by someone who found a bag and phone packaging (no phone) from T-Mobile laying in front of his house. It had been behind the back seat. A receipt with my name and cell phone number was in the bag. Thanks everyone for keeping an eye out for it. Ironically I drove within a block of it twice this morning when I was out looking for it.

Did they say where in South Park? My Audi was stolen this morning in highland park and I drove around South Park like you did to no avail!

I found it a half block west of Concord Elementary on Concord Street. I then reported it to SPD because it was in their jurisdiction. I had requested impound if found, but since i found it, they released it to me. Put yourself in the thief’s mindset. only a couple ways out of West Seattle. And they do not want to be caught in the car. In my case they drove straight down Roxbury to Cloverdale. made the first right into the neighborhood and parked it.

I also had the advantage of letting the thief know it was already reported to police, by broadcasting a comment over the repeater that the radio in the truck was tuned to.

Sorry, comment time is over.
