WEST SEATTLE WEATHER: Expanded heat alert for Sunday

(Thursday’s sunset, photographed by Theresa Arbow-O’Connor)

The heat alert for Sunday has expanded by a few hours. The National Weather Service now has a “Heat Advisory” for 7 am Sunday through 2 am Monday. Same outlook, though: “Very hot conditions with afternoon temperatures in the 90s expected.” Today, meantime, we could get into the mid-80s – same for Monday and Tuesday.

Stunning picture. I read online that those golden colors are from high-atmosphere smoke  coming from peat fires in Siberia.

If you don’t have air conditioning ( & we do not) here is a way to keep the house/ apartment cooler:at night – open up ALL the windows you can (without bypassing security concerns). This is the big part: in the morning- close everything up & keep all curtains/blinds/windows/doors closed throughout the day.keep any little fans running all.. the.. time. This has made a big difference for us

Does anyone know who to contact about beach fires?  Last night I had the portable ac on because I could not open my windows due to smoke.  The smoke still permeated the apartment.  There were fires still going at 3am.  They were put out when told to initially but as soon as the coast was  clear they reignite them.   I anticipate tonite will be even worse and would like to know who to contact other than burdening emergency 911.   I hope that the illegal beach fires would be legally snuffed for at least a couple of nights.  This is a health issue for Alki residents.  It’s not like I can just go stay with friends for a night during the corona crisis.

This pic makes me think of these words.Ecclesiastes 12:13-14Now all has been heard;    here is the conclusion of the matter:Fear God and keep his commandments,    for this is the duty of all mankind.14 For God will bring every deed into judgment,    including every hidden thing,    whether it is good or evil.
