WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Helicopter helps police arrest suspect in Highland Park

9:45 PM: If you’re noticing the law-enforcement helicopter Guardian One over the Highland Park Way hill, here’s what’s going on: Police are searching for a “felony warrant suspect” last seen near HP Way and West Marginal Way SW, and asked if the helicopter could help. We don’t know the suspect’s name, description, or warrant details.

10:04 PM: Suspect in custody. We’ll follow up tomorrow to see if we can find out who he is and what the warrant’s for. (added) Officers just told the helicopter crew it was a warrant for robbery.

11:39 PM: Guardian One has published video of the search and arrest:

Medics were called for the suspect after he was in custody, and the video appears to show why.

ADDED FRIDAY: The suspect is 41 years old and wanted in Kansas.

That’s a different call. Reported from the ~8700 block 16th SW. No shooting going on with this call, just the helicopter trying to help police get this suspect… sounds like they may have him.

    Police were talking to someone near 16th and Roxbury but I don’t know if they ever found evidence of gunfire. Again, totally unrelated to this incident.

Apparently not related, but at precisely 9:52 I heard 5-6 handgun shots clear as day a block away from me, by the intersection of 16th + Trenton. I called it in, and dispatch said someone also called for the same. No sirens so far.

We live on Othello off HPW and helicopter has been over us quite awhile. Also have had cops in cars searching streets.

I can’t say enough about our K-9, they really rock. Thanks to our police who try to clean up our streets no thanks to the court system.

Nothing can stop us if we all pull in the same direction, so never forget that criminals suck; misery creators suck. We definitely seem to have an uptick of gang activity every spring. It’s this some common I initiation period or something? I swear I’ve been here 14 years and EVERY spring around this time, shootings, shots fired, had a drive by on my street a few years ago. Always when the weather gets nicer.

No gang activity mentioned here. The guy’s warrant was from Kansas (will be updating the story shortly) and he’s 41 years old.
