FOLLOWUP: West Seattle Trader Joe’s open again after 4-day power-outage closure

The West Seattle Trader Joe’s store was expected to reopen this morning after its four-day power outage ended last night, and indeed, multiple WSB readers report, it did. The outage started very early Saturday after a suspected DUI driver rolled his car into the transformer and other equipment on the north side of the store at 4545 Fauntleroy Way SW; City Light told WSB that its part of the repairs were completed by Saturday night but other equipment belonging to the store had to be fixed before they could reconnect, and that took until last night. (While any prolonged closure of a business would be news, this store holds a special place in West Seattle lore due to the many years community members clamored for it, a long wait that finally ended when the conversion of a former car-sales business was completed with the store’s opening in April 2012.)

Great news for all, including the always enthusiastic  and helpful Trader Joe’s employees!  Happy holidays and thank you WSB for always keeping us up to date, you rock!

For a while there, I thought I would have to adopt a hungry millenial for Christmas.

I love that the coverage of this inconvenience has been covered as if an embassy had been seized and taken hostage for political reasons.

Well, at least everybody has access to delicious movie snacks and affordable chicken legs again. :)

In all seriousness, I hope the company took care of their employees – or at least let them pick up hours at other locations – and that nobody was late on their bills.

Right lane of Fauntleroy blocked again early this afternoon by shoppers waiting for TJ parking lot.   It’s the thru lane to SW Alaska, don’t park in it!  Puleeze!

Remember there is parking above across from the bowling alley and a few inside the garage attached to TJS.

I asked one of the employees about the impact of the shutdown on them, and she assured me that TJ’s kept them busy (and thus paid) throughout the last few days. She appreciated that customers were concerned about their well-being.

Not sure if it is the same now as it was 20 plus years ago but if you are a full time employee and your hours get cut for whatever reason you can claim un-employment for the shorted hours.

Sorry, comment time is over.
