FOLLOWUP: If you’ve been wondering about Olympia Coffee’s West Seattle shop …

When Olympia Coffee announced in May that it would open a West Seattle café, its proprietors hoped to open this month. It’s going to take a bit longer, co-proprietor Sam Schroeder tells WSB, because of a construction delay related to some logistics that are out of their hands, which he says involve the city and the developer of Rally, the townhouse/live-work complex where they plan to open at 3840 California SW. “We are so excited to open in West Seattle, I personally can’t wait to serve our delicious coffee to the community that I grew up in,” Schroeder told us via e-mail, while saying he’s frustrated that “things are moving comically slow. It is hard to make a firm estimate on an opening date, since this delay is out of our hands. I can say that we have already made a lot of progress doing some offsite work. Including having Windfall Lumber mill of all of the wood we will use in construction, as well as getting some custom equipment built, along with the construction of our cabinets, and some custom metal work for our furniture.” Again, this phase of the project is not entirely in their control, but Schroeder says, ” If I had to make a guess, I would say that we will be open by the end of the year.”

P.S. Once they do open, he says, their hours will be 6 am-6 pm daily.

Heard great things about them so it’s been a looooooong wait.

Seams to be a thing in general, very long periods to open places around here…

I drive by the Rally buildings often and I am confused by the street level tenants. Are they businesses?  Apartments?  Sure it’s clear the coffee place is one spot, and I see the winery, but for a new building with what looks like new businesses I am curious why I don’t see more signage or advertising.  I imagine WSB has shared info on the shops that I missed?

They’re live-work units. Like other live-work units, they’re not all businesses open to the public.

I think I had a pour over coffee at their place in Olympia when I was there for an advocacy day. It was the best cup I have ever had in my life. Looking forward to trying it out to see if it is as good as I remember.

AA- I wondered the same- the two northern most spaces looked like businesses but seemed to be never open—+until I drove by mid afternoon on a Saturday- both had signs out & were open so I parked & went in them both. They’re delightful— am sorry I can’t remember the names- but the corner space is an Interior Design  business  & the other space is a fun & funky mix of new & vintage things- Pende

ton blankets- pottery. The owner was there – creating her own jewelry. I spoke to her & the owner( I think) of the other space- super nice people. Mentioned that I had been wondering when they would open- seems right now they are only open on Sat & Sun & only in the afternoons. The vintage place owner said she hopes to be open more days ad holidays approach. I spent over $ 50 at her shop & will definitely  go back.

Sure hope both these businesses & whatever else might go in there do a bit more  advertising as they’re open more.

I wonder how they will compare to Sound and Fog coffee (at 40th and Edmunds)? Great lattes and Americanos.

Same beans, roasted by the same people so my guess is similar. Now it’s made obviously makes a difference too and that where the new place might shine since I believe one of the owners won an baristas award.

Sound & Fog actually switched to Heart Roasters out of Portland (which I prefer) some time ago.

It is tough to beat Sound & Fog – love that place.

This will be worth the wait.  We are big Olympia Coffee fans and live across the street in the next block south.

Sorry, comment time is over.
