UPDATE: Ramp to 99 from EB West Seattle Bridge reopens after crash

11:38 PM: Just confirmed by driving the eastbound bridge – and SDOT finally tweeted it too – the ramp to NB 99 is closed for a crash investigation. No other details. The crash initially was reported as involving a vehicle “into the barricade.”

12:24 AM: The ramp has reopened.

Drove by in the light after texting you last night, and it looked like the steel gore-point was mangled pretty well. I have to wonder what happened, it looked like a fairly decent impact when I went by.

I drove across the bridge and back twice to try to see – nowhere to stop to talk to police when there is a situation on the bridge. I don’t know if it was a pre-existing situation but the low visibility was compounded by a string of unlit streetlights west of the scene. Anyway, I went mostly because a texter (was that you?) said they thought they saw the Medical Examiner … and most definitely, NO medical examiner there, and no TCIS, so whatever injury the driver suffered wasn’t major. (In the case of a deadly crash, the M/E is usually last on the scene, after TCIS investigates for a few hours. But there was no way to know without driving by, since the only cameras on the bridge are quite some distance and could only show flashing lights.)

Yep, that was me. I didn’t get a good look, all I saw was white panel van with some sort of seal/emblem and hazard lights. Glad it wasn’t a major/fatal injury.

Thank you for being such a fantastic source!

Sorry, comment time is over.
