6:57 AM: Good morning and welcome to a rainy post-holiday Tuesday. No incidents in/from West Seattle thus far.

BACK TO SCHOOL: More students return today – the Vashon Island School District, which has more than a few West Seattle students, is starting classes. But tomorrow’s the big day for Seattle Public Schools and the independent schools that follow the same calendar.

7:05 AM: Sound Transit just sent an alert that some of its buses, including West Seattle-serving Route 560, “are experiencing delays of up to 25 minutes due to heavy traffic and road conditions (rain) this morning.”

WEST SEATTLE CANCELLATION: This came in just ahead of that and we almost missed it until the mention in comments, but, for the record:

Metro has tweeted four other cancellations this morning, but this is the only one in West Seattle so far.

ROAD-WORK REMINDER: The Spokane Street repaving project east of the low bridge enters its second month this week and is expected to last two more months. This week’s plan is here.

8:34 AM: If you’re headed toward the high bridge from the Fauntleroy end, beware:

8:48 AM: And if you happen to be heading southbound on the Alaskan Way Viaduct, there’s a lane-blocking crash near the Columbia on-ramp, per WSDOT.

8:56 AM: SDOT says that incident has cleared.

    7:06 Route 57 cancelled.  Again.  Sigh….

Thanks – that came in simultaneous with the Sound Transit alert I just added and almost missed it.

I really wish they would cancel runs on routes that have either more frequent or closer different runs.  The 57 for a good portion of us is our only option and with service 30minutes between ensures those of us who rely on it miss start of work or meeting and appt.

The 57 that leaves California and Admiral at 6:55am had plenty of seats and despite the very heavy and slow traffic, got us downtown on time.

All of the inbound 57s have plenty of seats these days — people have given up and are either driving, or walking to another bus line.

the thing is this bus is rarely cancelled.  I believe 4 times in the past year (three were during the hiring scramble last fall).  I ride it almost every weekday, unless I ride the earlier 56 (also plenty of room).

Yes, it does seem to be the 7:06 that gets all the cancellations.  I would guess about ten or so just this summer.   Curious.

Hmmm I swear I was on that bus this morning.

new native  – the bus is cancelled all the time [5 times since 8/25 (all the history I have on my phone) ]

If you live in admiral you have the option if the 56. those on Genesee hill have little choice.

I have the choice, yes. to get an earlier bus (56) or walk to the water taxi (even earlier).  What I’m saying is that the early 57 doesn’t have the same cancellation rate.  I always take the early, early buses to keep my options open.  #1 the earlier you leave, the more options there are.  #2 the traffic is a lot lighter before 7am.

Sorry, comment time is over.
