Heading for the peak commute time, no trouble outbound from here so far, aside from the rain.

2ND ‘KICKOFF MEETING’ FOR 35TH SW SAFETY PROJECT: If you’re available at 3:30 pm today, SDOT’s second “kickoff meeting” for the 35th SW Safety Project starts then, upstairs at Southwest Library (35th/Henderson). Here’s our report from the first meeting last Wednesday night.

7:43 AM: From WSDOT: “On I-5 southbound just south of West Seattle Bridge, there is a collision blocking the 2 left lanes.”

8:48 AM: Thanks to the texter who mentioned a crash that’s not on the 911 log (which just means, no injuries), Delridge/Oregon. We’re off to see if that’s still a factor.

9:23 AM: That’s clear. But while trying to get there, we found eastbound Spokane at a standstill under the bridge.

9:53 AM: Likely standing-water problems, we’re told by people who commuted earlier, including:

@westseattleblog FYI: The onramp from Delridge to W. Sea. Bridge has a LARGE lake-like puddle. I would say @ least 2' in depth. Use caution.

Not sure what’s up but the electronic travel times sign in the Triangle at Fauntleroy say 25 min to get to 1st ave. ugh.

Something’s up on the low bridge — I’ve been parked on the Spokane entry from Marginal for about 15 minutes.

Perhaps the regular Tuesday closure? @sdotbridges tweeted 17 minutes ago that it was closed to (non-marine) traffic – though it looks like traffic is on the bridge, according to the image in our regular cameras (top right) … (*Added, and as I typed this, SDOT tweeted that it’s open again.)

Traffic’s bad today. Left my house by Hamilton Viewpoint 25 min ago…not even at the bridge yet!

At 5:30 this morning, there was a drainage problem by Nucor as you were taking the Admiral entrance onto the bridge. It was REALLY deep. If that hasn’t been cleared up, that’s probably the cause of the delay.

The bridge was open around 8:10; finally opening around 8:25 (it was a really big boat being towed VERY slowly by a tug (or 2?). So there was likely a long backup. Apparently the bridge closed again at 9am.

Definitely a tough commute today!
