Update: 2-car crash on eastbound bridge

(Photo by Christopher Boffoli for WSB)
9:34 PM: Big response to the eastbound bridge, Spokane Street Viaduct section, for a “heavy rescue” call. One texter says it’s a rollover crash.

9:51 PM: Still not much information on this; commenters who passed the scene say it’s before the 99 exit. The eastbound bridge remains open.

10:46 PM: WSB contributing photojournalist Christopher Boffoli is back from checking out the crash aftermath. Two SUVs were on the outside shoulder by the time he got there (one is shown above). The exit to 99 was blocked at the time but the traffic camera now shows it, and the rest of the scene, clear. At this point we aren’t likely to have information about injuries, if any, until morning.

TUESDAY MORNING UPDATE: Seattle Fire Department spokesperson Kyle Moore tells us that one car was on its side when SFD crews got to the two-vehicle crash scene, and, “We had to lift the occupants out of the cab of the overturned SUV. They did not have any significant injuries.”

We just passed it going west And a car was on its side across the lanes. Must have just happened as there were no emergency vehicles there or in route yet

I drove by this right after it happened heading in the opposite direction. The car was laying on it’s side across the two inside lanes. No rescue crews had arrived, but there appeared to be a rescue effort in effect from people who had stopped.

WSM or “k” – it’s in one of the uniquely not-visible spots for us – cannot tell exactly where – was it west of the 99 ramp or east of the ramp, do you recall?

I wonder if speed had anything to do with it. I use the SSV often during the week. I honestly can’t believe how many people fly through there (either direction) going upwards of 50 mph. I hope everyone is OK…:(

If I recall correctly it was just west of 99

It was on the eastbound side close to 99 south exit. They were blocking the 2 left lanes, not the99 lane.

    West of 99. 99% sure.

Just drove by coming home – looked like a minivan on it’s driver’s side across the left two lanes. It’s west of 99, about where the hard divider for the 99 onramp starts.
    .
Another car was pulled off to the right of the 99 onramp lane, further back; it looked like a suburban that might have blown a tire. I’m guessing they’ve already taken people to the hospital if necessary.

Anybody know if this is still blocking?

Christopher Boffoli checked out the scene for us – I’m about to add an update. He says it was indeed west of 99, and the exit to 99 was blocked, but the traffic cam now appears clear in the spot where he saw the aftermath of the crash. – TR

When I drove past around 9:20 it look like the suburban lost the whole wheel and was stopped in the 99 lane and the driver was standing next to the vehicle. The other car may have been trying to avoid the wheel and lost control.

Sorry, comment time is over.
