Update: Boston bombing ‘response run’ on Alki at 2 pm

11:52 AM: Just received from Eric Renn at West Seattle CrossFit:

Today, we are organizing a Team Red White and Blue “Response Run”. The run will be from the Statue of Liberty to Anchor Park and back, the typical 5k run on Alki … we will begin at 2 p.m. today and carry an American flag with us the entire way.

(Statue of Liberty Plaza is at 61st and Alki.)

Happened to have been there at the right moment – runners carrying the Flag and especially the starting point at Miss Liberty was really touching – and the skies and sea could not have been more accommodating. Reminded me of how lucky we all really are.

What’s with the flag? It was likely other Americans who bombed the race. It’s grotesque to see a flag come out every time something bad happens in this country. So again, what’s the significance of a flag that represents a country divided?

Carring that flag was hard work but what kept me going was thinking that the people in boston are hurting much worse. My heart goes out to all those suffering.

My2Cents – What are you? 12 years old? The reason the flag was brought out with the runners was to show WHOEVER did these bombings, the rest of the US were joining together in solidarity. It doesn’t matter that they were legal citizens. An event that is near and dear to not only Americans, but the crowds of other nations all over the world was attacked on our soil. Runners kept running and gave blood, strangers were helping strangers, we came together as a nation. The flag also comes out in times of peace as well, ALL THE TIME, but you’re obviously oblivious and only look for small details to pick at when you are looking to be negative. The flag is a tool that binds us as a huge community.

Sorry, comment time is over.
