When 1st Avenue South offramp Eastbound closes, what will happen to the 21, 22, and other buses that have exited there? Will they take 4th Avenue and bypass the 1st Avenue stops (Holgate, etc.) or will they have to double back to 1st Avenue? And a heads up to those who don’t already know—-I believe that starting the end of September the 22 will no longer go downtown. Sad.

Until WSB has a chance to put this in the story body; from the Metro e-mail update:

    .

From Monday, August 20 through approximately Sunday, September 30, the 1st Av S ramp from the
eastbound Spokane Street Viaduct will be closed for construction and paving associated with the
    Spokane Street Viaduct widening project.

    During this closure, Metro bus routes 21 Local, 22, 35, 37, 56 Local, 57, 85 Night Owl, 116, 118 and 119
from West Seattle to downtown Seattle will travel instead via 4th Av S and will stop northbound at
    S Spokane St, S Lander St and S Royal Brougham Way. Routes 21, 22, 35, 56, 57 and 85 will also serve
other stops on 4th Av S at S Forest, S Walker and S Holgate streets.

One brief exception to this long-term routing revision, affecting only routes 21, 56 and 85, will be overnight
on Wednesday, August 22 and Thursday, August 23, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM each of those nights, when
these three routes will travel via the low level Spokane St Bridge instead, and serve their usual stops on 1st Av S
at S Hanford and S Lander streets before proceeding to their regular routes via S Lander St and 4th Av S.

Southbound service heading toward West Seattle is not affected by this closure.

Due to possible traffic and delays related to this project, all Transit customers are encouraged to allow
plenty of time for bus trips through the affected area.

Thank you for riding and for using Metro’s services

Thanks, Mike. Back from errand now, can’t find the original text I had on that but will just add link to your comment.

Wait, so if 99 South is closed tonight as is exit from I-5, how is one supposed to get back to WS (via car) from Ballard? Have some friends visiting from out of town and trying to help them navigate this whole crazy closed/not closed situation. Ugh!

    • WSB August 20, 2012 (3:48 pm)

99 south is not closed tonight. See MONDAY NIGHT on list. Nor tomorrow night, either.

OK thanks – it’s like algebra! And me an English major :)

Sorry, comment time is over.
