Mark shares the photo of a Rufous Hummingbird he spotted in a nest recently in a maple tree. He’s in the Fauntleroy Park area.

I have this image in my mind, of Homer Simpson as a hummingbird, doing the infamous Homer Drool, while saying “Mmmmmm, maaaapppppplllllle! Auggggggghhhh!” ;-)

If you’re shooting off fireworks tonight, please know that many young birds are still in nests. Try to stay as far away as possible from trees and shrubs where they’re hidden away in nests.

And please keep in mind that that any loud sudden sound scares wildlife and our pets.

Stay safe everyone! And I hope that our nesting birds survive tonight’s celebrations.

second that WS Suzanne! My one dog is unfortunately heavily drugged up so he can make it through the night. In unincorporated King County its like a war zone…

And my parrots are going to be “serenaded” by music that’s just a tad too loud to keep the sound of the fireworks in the background. (I board birds so there are quite a few here, as well as my guys.) I always stay home to make sure all is well for them.

This is such a tough holiday for all of our feathered and furry friends.

So sad..haven’t seen a hummingbird since the 4th when the neighbors blew off 2 hours of aerial bombs.

Sorry, comment time is over.
